Dramis Totals Six Stops in Setback vs. Friars
10/25/2015 12:00:00 AM | Women's Soccer
SOUTH ORANGE, N.J. - Sophomore goalkeeper Laura Dramis (Farmingdale, N.Y.) came up with six stops in her first career start for the Seton Hall women's soccer team Sunday against Providence but a 54th minute strike from the Friars' Casey Estey was the lone goal of the afternoon as PC secured a 1-0 victory.
Dramis is the fourth different starting keeper for The Hall (2-13-2, 1-7-0 BIG EAST) this season and held an attack that was coming off a three-goal outburst at Creighton to just a single tally on the afternoon.
The Farmingdale product recorded three highlight saves in the first half, all on attempts from Friars' leading scorer Catherine Zimmerman, to help the Pirates head into overtime in a scoreless draw.
Providence (12-6-0, 5-3-0 BIG EAST) was turned away by The Hall on all four of their corner kick opportunities in the first half but in the 54th minute, a corner from Catherine Zimmerman eventually made its way to Rachel Ugolik in the center of the area where, with her back to goal, the junior laid it off for Estey who snuck a driven shot past a diving Dramis and inside the left post.
PC recorded just two more shots on target the rest of the way as the Pirates made a push to erase the one-goal deficit and in the 89th minute, the breakthrough nearly came when Jackie Saint John (Ridgefield, N.J.) fired from the right edge of the area but PC's Kristyn Shea was able to fight it off before her defense intervened to clear the rebound.
Turning Point
Six of the Pirates' nine shot attempts came in the second half and the best chance came when Saint John worked an opening on the right but Shea was there to deny the equalizer with less than 90 seconds to play
Goals
PC - 54th minute - Estey (4) - Strode into shot from top of the area after lay-off; sequence followed corner from left
Inside The Numbers
- Seton Hall has only conceded a single goal in three of its last four matches and has allowed one goal or less in five of eight conference games to this point in the season
- An aggressive and effective Pirates defense proved to be difficult to crack yet again, blocking six Providence shots before they could reach the frame
- The last five meetings between Seton Hall and Providence have seen one of the sides emerge with a clean sheet
News & Notes
- Sunday marked Dramis' first career start but the sophomore made her collegiate debut in relief of freshman Anna MacLean (Thunder Bay, Ontario) on October 22 at Georgetown
- Seton Hall was again without freshman Eva Gonzalez (Mesquite, Texas) who is away from the squad due to being called back into the Mexico U20 side. Gonzalez has recorded two assists in 13 appearances this season, tied for the most on the team.
- Standout defender Cathy Chukuka (Marlboro, N.J.) exited the match in the 22nd minute and did not return
Up Next
The Pirates will close the season by hosting Providence on Friday, October 30 in a match that will double as Senior Day for The Hall. Kick-off is set for 7:00 p.m. and a live stream will be available on the BIG EAST Digital Network and FOX Sports GO. Those planning on participating in Senior Day festivities should plan to arrive at least 40 minutes prior to the scheduled start time.
