Seton Hall Falls to Villanova in Three Sets

VILLANOVA, PA. -- The Seton Hall women's volleyball team fell in three sets at Villanova, 3-0 (19-25, 18-25, 13-25), on Saturday.
Freshman Sophia Coffey (Sierra Madre, Calif.) came just three digs shy of her 11th double-double of the season. Instead, she settled for 23 assists and seven digs.
Seton Hall (12-16, 6-10) put forth its best effort in set one. The Pirates played the Wildcats even early on and took a 13-11 advantage on a Villanova service error. The Wildcats however, came charging back and used a 7-1 run to take an 18-14 lead. From there, Seton Hall never got closer than three points and eventually fell, 25-19.
The Pirates again started strong at the beginning of set two. A Villanova attack error put Seton Hall in front, 7-6. The Wildcats responded with five straight points to take an 11-7 lead. A kill by Cherise Hennigan (Corona, Calif.) cut the Pirates' lead to 11-10, but Villanova again took off, scoring six of the next seven points to take a 17-11 advantage. The Wildcats' lead grew to as many eight points and the Pirates couldn't recover, falling 25-18.
With the score tied at six in set three, Villanova went on a 9-2 run to take a 15-8 lead and never looked back. The Wildcats won set three, 25-13, to complete the match sweep.
Notes & Numbers:
- Freshman Abby Thelen (Ft. Mitchell, Ky.) led the Pirates with seven kills.
- Junior Tessa Fournier (Redondo Beach, Calif.) led the Pirates with 12 digs.
- Seton Hall falls to 5-9 in three-set matches.
- The Pirates fall to 14-24 all-time against Villanova.
Next Up:
Seton Hall will be back in action on Friday, Nov. 20 when it returns to Walsh Gym to host local BIG EAST rival St. John's. Match time is scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
