SOUTH ORANGE, N.J. - Junior Danielle Schroeder (Chicago, Ill.) recorded a match-high 18 kills as the Seton Hall women's volleyball team downed St. John's, 3-1 (25-15, 17-25, 25-20, 27-25), on Friday.
Seton Hall (13-16, 7-10) dominated the Red Storm in set one, winning 25-15, but St. John's was equally as impressive in set two, tying the match with a 25-17 victory.
Turning Point:
Trailing 8-7 in set three, the Pirates went on a 9-2 run to take a commanding 16-10 advantage. St. John's cut the lead to 19-17, but The Hall scored four of the next five points to pad its lead. A kill by Cherise Hennigan (Corona, Calif.), put the Pirates in set point, 24-20, and the ensuing kill by Amanda Hansen (Pewaukee, Wis.), won the set for The Hall.
Set four was clearly the closest of the match with the teams combining for seven ties and three lead changes. Again, the Pirates found themselves down early, but rallied with a big run. Trailing 8-5, The Hall went on an 11-2 run to take a 16-10 advantage. The Red Storm rallied however, and pulled even with the Pirates at 19. With the scored tied at 21, St. John's scored three of the next four points to earn set point at 24-22. But the Pirates bounced back, and consecutive kills by Hansen and Abby Thelen (Ft. Mitchell, Ky.) tied the set at 24. The Red Storm again moved into set point, 25-24, but The Hall scored the final three points of the set, to win in epic fashion, 27-25.
Notes & Numbers:
- Schroeder recorded her team-leading seventh match with at least 15 kills.
- Hansen finished with 15 kills. It's her fifth 15-kill match of the season.
- Sophia Coffey (Sierra Madre, Calif.) recorded at least 40 assists for the 11th time this season.
- Tessa Fournier (Redondo Beach, Calif.) notched her 14th match this season with at least 20 digs.
- Seton Hall improves to 4-3 this season in four-set matches.
- The Pirates improve to 14-11 all-time against the Red Storm, and complete the 2015 season sweep.

Seton Hall will return to action tomorrow when it hosts Providence on Senior Night. Following the match, seniors Hansen, Sara Connell (Dousman, Wis.) and Kacey Richards (Macedon, N.Y.). Match time is scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
