SOUTH ORANGE, N.J. - Seton Hall women's soccer is back in action during the second weekend of the 2015 campaign as the Pirates will travel to Philadelphia to take on a pair of Big 5 opponents in LaSalle and Pennsylvania over a four-day stretch.
The trips conclude a string of four consecutive matches away from home to start the season for The Hall as SHU and Villanova are the only two BIG EAST squads that will not make a home appearance prior to September.
Head coach Rick Stainton's side heads into the weekend coming off a visit to Harrisonburg, Va. for the JMU Invitational to open the new year. The Hall did not record a result in its first two matches but seniors Amanda Gulli (Toms River, N.J.) and Emily Hansinger (Mount Laurel, N.J.) were named to the All-Tournament team for their performances against William & Mary and the hosts James Madison.
Seton Hall and LaSalle will meet for the first time since 2012 and the Pirates - who hold a 6-3-2 all-time advantage in the series - will look to score a marquee victory over a program that has made four consecutive trips to the NCAA Tournament. In what will be the season opener for Penn on Sunday, The Hall will take aim at its first victory in four all-time meetings with the Quakers.
You can follow both matches online through the links above. Tomorrow's meeting with the Explorers will be shown live on Atlantic10.com while the matchup with the Quakers on Sunday will be carried by the Ivy League Digital Network. Both streams require a subscription but you can alsofollow @SHUWSOCCER on Twitter throughout the weekend for updates.
PIRATE POINTS
- Seton Hall recorded results in three of its five non-conference road matches last season including victories over Marist and Army
- Senior Melissa Blevins (Laurel Springs, N.J.) and Frankie Maier (Oradell, N.J.) each started both of the first two matches, extending their team-high consecutive matches played streaks to 38 apiece
- Head coach Rick Stainton did not shy away from going to his bench after adding 11 newcomers in his first offseason at the helm. The Pirates used at least 10 substitutes against both William & Mary and James Madison
- The Hall will square off with four of the Big 5 institutions this season as the squad is set to host Saint Joseph's (Sept. 11) and Villanova (Oct. 30) later in the year. SHU and Temple have not met since 1999
- LaSalle is ranked ninth in the latest NSCAA Northeast Regional poll after playing Boston University to a scoreless draw last week. Seton Hall will have played three of the top-10 teams in the Mid-Atlantic poll by the conclusion of the weekend with William & Mary coming in atop the rankings and James Madison sitting at no. 10
