NEWARK, DEL. – Junior Victor Ricci (Narragansett, R.I.) delivered an 8K time of 27:34.67 to take ninth-place out of 114 competitors at Saturday's Delaware Invitational and help lead the Seton Hall men's cross country team to its second third-place finish in as many weeks.
Ricci returned to the top of the team rankings after a rare finish outside the scoring group last week at Monmouth; pacing a group of four Pirates who crossed the line among the top-20 overall.
Sophomore Louis Bustamante (Hamburg, N.J.) will head into the third week of competition having placed second on the team in each of the first two weeks after registering a 12th-place time of 27:42.55 Saturday morning.
Classmate Bryant Cordova (Elizabeth, N.J.) and junior Sean Kip (Union, N.J.) completed the course in quick succession, taking 18th and 19th-place respectively. The Hall's top performer in the opener, Cordova reached the line in 27:55.15; less than six seconds ahead of Kip's 28:00.98 mark.
Jeff Larson (Yucca Valley, Calif.) joined Bustamante, Cordova and Kip as runners who have scored in each of the first two weeks by turning in a 25th-place time of 28:22.28.
Larson's finish gave The Hall a final team score of 77 and the Pirates joined team champions TCNJ (15) as the only squads to record five top-25 finishes on the day.
The Hall is back on the road next Saturday, September 19 when the teams will head to Princess Anne, Md. for the Cappy Anderson Invitational. Start time is scheduled for 10:30 a.m.
