PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Sophomore Abby Thelen (Ft. Mitchell, Ky.) and senior Danielle Schroeder (Chicago, Ill.) combined for 38 kills as the Seton Hall women's volleyball team downed Providence in four sets, 3-2 (25-22, 22-25, 25-15, 25-20), on Friday.
Â
With the victory, Seton Hall got back to .500 in BIG EAST Conference play at 4-4.
Â
The first set was close, but Providence led for much of the early goings. With the Friars leading, 14-12, Seton Hall scored six of the next seven points and an ace by Sophia Coffey (Sierra Madre, Calif.) gave the Pirates an 18-15 lead. Providence cut the lead to one point at 23-22, but The Hall scored the last two points to take set one, 25-22.
Â
Providence bounced back in set two. With the score tied at 15, the Friars scored three straight and never trailed again in a 25-22 win.
Â
Turning Point:
Seton Hall (10-11, 4-4) dominated set three from the start and Providence never led. The Pirates scored four of the first five points to take an early lead. With The Hall ahead 7-4, they went on a 12-5 run to take a commanding 19-9 advantage. Leading 23-15, a kill by Schroeder put the Pirates in set point and a Providence attack error handed set three to Seton Hall, 25-15.
Â
Set four was one of the most impressive offensive sets for the Pirates all season. The Hall erupted for a .471 attack percentage as it cruised to a 25-20 set four victory. With the score tied at 10, Seton Hall went on a 7-1 run and never trailed again.Â
