PREVIEW
Seton Hall will return to the road this weekend for a pair of BIG EAST Conference road matches. On Friday, the Pirates will travel to Providence for a 7:00 p.m. match with the Friars. On Sunday, The Hall will travel to Creighton to take on the defending BIG EAST champions. Start time for that match is 1:00 p.m. ET.
Â
Last week, Seton Hall dropped a pair of BIG EAST home matches. On Friday, the Pirates led DePaul two sets to one, but fell in five sets. Four Pirates reached double-figures in kills, led by sophomore Abby Thelen, who had a team-high 16. The Pirates had a season-high .333 attack percentage, but also had a season-high 13 service errors. On Saturday, the Pirates lost in four sets to Marquette. After losing the first set 25-8, The Hall bounced back nicely by winning the second set. However, the Golden Eagles won sets three and four to complete the victory. Danielle Schroeder notched a team-high 13 kills, her ninth straight match reaching double-figures in kills.Â
Â
Providence enters Friday's contest with a 12-10 overall record and a 0-6 mark in BIG EAST play. The Friars started the season with wins in nine of their first 10 matches, but have struggled mightily since beginning conference play. In six BIG EAST matches, Providence has won only three sets, which includes a five-set loss to DePaul and a four-set loss at Georgetown. Last season, Seton Hall and Providence split the regular season series, with each team winning on its home floor. The Pirates' five-set loss at Providence snapped a five-match win streak against the Friars.Â
Â
Whereas Providence has been struggling recently, Creighton is playing its best volleyball. The Bluejays enter the weekend with an overall record of 12-6 and a perfect 6-0 record in conference play. Since losing at No. 1 Nebraska in four sets on Sept. 17, Creighton has only lost two sets over six straight match victories. The Bluejays dropped a set at home to DePaul and at Villanova. They swept Marquette, Xavier, Butler and most recently, Georgetown. Last season, the Bluejays swept the season series from Seton Hall. The Pirates are 3-4 all-time against Creighton, most notably dropping the 2014 BIG EAST Championship match to them in four sets.
