NEW HAVEN, CONN. – The winning streak is now at three for the Pirates as the Seton Hall tennis team breezed past Fairfield on Saturday, dropping a total of 12 games across nine matches en route to a convincing 7-0 victory.
The Hall (3-1) has now out-scored its opponents, 17-to-4, during the current winning streak after coming up just short in the opener at Army.
Sophomore Luize Strike (Riga, Latvia) joined seniors Hannah Liljekvist (Djursholm, Sweden) and Julia Keenan (Greenland, N.H.) in remaining perfect in singles play this year. Isabell Klingert (Oberbalbach, Germany) and Marisa Quevedo (Tyler, Texas) picked up their first victories of the spring during the dominant effort while Katie Kim (Honolulu, Hawaii) prevailed for the second-straight day.
Both Liljekvist and Keenan swept their singles matches in the minimum of 12 games. At No. 2, Liljekvist extended her streak to eight consecutive sets won in a victory over Karen McKeough while Keenan also scored her fourth consecutive straight set win at No. 5 against Gabriella Campos.
Kim surrendered just a single game in the first set of a fourth singles matchup with Courtney Connors before sweeping the second to even her record at 2-2 for the spring.
Klingert posted a pair of 6-1 set victories against Meghan Zimmer at No. 3, entering the win column for the first time this year after leading the team in singles wins last spring.
In sixth singles action, Quevedo squared off with Cecilia Parla and following a 6-2 win in the first set, the Tyler, Texas native put the exclamation mark on her first victory of the season by blanking Parla in the second.
Atop the lineup, Strike bested Nicole Aragones, 6-2, 6-3 to continue her winning ways in the No.1 slot. The sophomore has now won in four straight dual match appearances for the first time in her career.
The Pirates' play on the doubles court was equally dominant as the squad swept all three matches by a combined score of 18-to-2.
Liljekvist and Strike continued to assert themselves as one of the most formidable tandems in the BIG EAST with their fourth victory in-a-row, a 6-0 shutout against Aragones and Connors. The partnership which was first formed at the West Point Invitational in the fall has now yielded six total wins, including one that earned a spot in the round of 32 in October's USTA/ITA Northeast Regional Championship.
Keenan and Quevedo completed an unbeaten weekend with a second doubles win over McKeough and Zimmer, losing a single game in the process.
Klingert and Kim registered their third-straight doubles win, getting past Campos and Parla by a score of 6-1.
Seton Hall will return to the court next weekend to take on in-state rival Rutgers. Start-time is scheduled for Noon from New Providence, N.J.
