NEW YORK - Coming of a fantastic first season, freshman Kira Farrakhova (Boca Raton, Fla.) of the Seton Hall women's tennis team has been named the BIG EAST Freshman of the Year and first-team All-BIG EAST, the conference office announced Thursday.
Farrakhova is the program's first major award winner, and she is the first Pirate to be named All-BIG EAST since 2018-19 and the first to be named to the conference's first team since 2016-17.
Although a rookie, Farrakhova's talent landed her in the No. 1 position on Seton Hall's lineup card every match this season. She went 10-9 on the No. 1 court this season, with seven of the wins in straight sets. Against BIG EAST competition, she posted a 4-3 record (4-2 during the regular season) with wins over the No. 1 players from Villanova, Providence, St. John's and UConn.
Farrakhova also went 3-2 against her fellow members of the two All-BIG EAST teams, showing how well she stacked up among the conference's best. And one of her wins on the season came against Delaware's regionally ranked No. 1 player, which resulted in her being named BIG EAST Player of the Week on Feb. 16.
Overall during her freshman campaign when including fall results, Farrakhova was 18-14 in singles matches.
In doubles, Farrakhova was mostly paired up with either Isabelle May or Anastasia Sereda, and she went 10-9 during spring doubles matches with BIG EAST wins over the No. 2 pairings of Villanova and Providence. When including fall matches, she was 17-14 in doubles overall.
