NEW YORK - Seton Hall women's basketball standouts Tabatha Richardson-Smith and Shakena Richardson have been named to the All-Met Division 1 First and Third Teams, respectively. The Metropolitan Basketball Writers Association announced the All-Met awards on Monday (April 11) with the recipients to be honored on Tuesday at the 83rd NIT/MBWA Haggerty Awards dinner.
Richardson-Smith (Bay City, Texas) picks up an All-Met honor for the second-straight season after the senior guard was honored with a Second Team nod in 2015. She earned Player of the Week honors from the MBWA twice this season, picking up the accolade on Jan. 19 and Jan. 26. The Third Team honor is the first All-Met accolade for Richardson (Neptune, N.J.) this season.
Tabatha Richardson-Smith - All-Met First Team
- Set the Seton Hall all-time scoring record, finishing her career with 1,925 points
- First Team All-BIG EAST unanimous selection
- Led the league with 21.7 points per game in conference play - first SHU player to lead the BIG EAST in scoring and second BIG EAST player in the last five years to score over 20 per game in conference play
- Finished fifth in the BIG EAST with 6.9 rebounds per game
- Ranked second in the conference with an 83.2 percent mark from the free throw line
- Named to the Naismith Trophy Midseason 30
- Seton Hall's all-time career leader in 3-point field goals (272) and ranks fourth in steals (221)
Shakena Richardson - All-Met Third Team
- All-BIG EAST Honorable Mention
- Ranked third on the Pirates and top-15 in the BIG EAST with 12.4 points per game
- Second in the BIG EAST and top-30 nationally with 5.6 assists per game
- Recorded the second-highest single-season assist total in SHU history with 175 helpers on the year
- Led The Hall with 47 steals and was among the BIG EAST leaders with 1.6 per contest
- Recorded four outings of at least 20 points, including a pair in the BIG EAST Tournament
The Pirates finished the 2015-16 season with a 23-9 record, reaching the NCAA Tournament for the second-straight season and fourth time in program history.
