WILLIAMSBURG, VA. - The Seton Hall women' golf team will open the 2016 fall season at William & Mary Invitational at Kingsmill Resort, Sept. 11-12.
Â
Tournament Details:
WILLIAM & MARY INVITATIONAL
Host:Â College of William & Mary
Location:Â Williamsburg, Va.
Course:Â Kingsmill Resort (River Course)
Course Vitals:Â Par-72, 6,043 yards
Dates:Â September 11-12, 2016, Three Rounds
Â
The Course:
Last year, this tournament was held on the Plantation Course, but this year, it'll be on Kingsmill's River Course. For more than three decades, The River Course has hosted the world's best players on both PGA and LPGA tours. Bordered by the calm azure waters of the James River, this famed championship course has tested the mettle of the game's most famous names. On a still morning, dew still beading on the precisely manicured greens, you can almost hear the echoes of applause for crisply struck irons and delicately holed putts. The River Course inspires you to test your own mettle. To see how you stack up against the greats of today, and of years gone by.
Â
The course has been reborn thanks to the efforts of original architect Pete Dye. The renowned course designer tinkered just enough with his layout, bringing out the subtle details that make for a truly unforgettable round of golf.
Â
The Field:
In addition to Seton Hall and host William & Mary, the field is comprised of 11 other teams including: Boston University, Cleveland State, Fairfield, Georgetown, IUPUI, Longwood, Northern Kentucky, Richmond, UNC-Asheville, UNC-Wilmington and UNC- Greensboro. Most notable among the competition is BIG EAST rival Georgetown, which has finished second to the Pirates in each of the last three BIG EAST Championships.
Â
The Lineup:
Seton Hall will be bringing the following lineup, in order as indicated, to Williamsburg.
Â
Last Time at William & Mary:
Pantelas fired a second straight even-par, 72, in the final round to lift the Pirates to a ninth place finish at the 2015 William & Mary Invitational. Pantelas' final round shot her up the leader board to finish in a 10th place tie among all golfers.
Â
Collectively, the Pirates saved their best round for round three. All five of Seton Hall's golfers either matched or shot their best round of the tournament. The Hall shot a 16-over-par, 304, to climb two places in the standings and finish ninth. For the three-day event, the Pirates were 64-over-par with a 314-310-304-928, and finished 49 strokes behind the team champion, UNC-Wilmington.
Â
Tee Times:
The field will play two rounds (36 holes) on Sunday, beginning with a shotgun start at 8:30 a.m., and a single final round on Monday. The Pirates will be paired with golfers from Cleveland State and IUPUI on Sunday.
