Pirates Fall At Rider On Tuesday Night
9/27/2016 9:06:00 PM | Men's Soccer
LAWRENCEVILLE, N.J. – The Seton Hall men's soccer team (2-6-1) closed a season-long four-game road swing on Tuesday night with a 1-0 setback at Rider (5-2-1). The setback for The Hall came despite controlling possession throughout the second half and out-shooting the Broncs over the course of the match.
The Pirates held a 15-9 shot advantage in the match, including a 9-3 edge in the second frame, but were unable to come up with an equalizer after Rider scored in the 30th minute. Ryan Baird made five saves for the Broncs, holding The Hall off the board in its second-straight 1-0 setback.
Turning Point
Down 1-0 in the second frame, The Hall's control of possession generated a series of quality looks in the final 20 minutes. First, Alex Pozesky (Columbia, Pa.) made a run that led to a point-blank blast in the 70th minute. His initial attempt was saved by Baird, before the Broncs were able to clear away the rebound.
Two minutes later, a corner kick led to a Spencer Burkhardt (Palmyra, Pa.) cross into the box and a header chance for Nick Najera (Laguna Hills, Calif.) that was also saved. The two successive saves for Baird helped keep The Hall at bay in his eventual shutout victory.
