Schroeder, Gasser Lead Pirates to Georgetown Sweep

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Senior Danielle Schroeder (Chicago, Ill.) had a match-high 14 kills and freshman Haylee Gasser (Mission Viejo, Calif.) added a career-high 10 kills as the Seton Hall women's volleyball team swept Georgetown, 3-0 (25-23, 25-23, 26-24), on Tuesday.

Seton Hall jumped out to a 12-4 lead to begin the match. The Hoyas scored four straight and cut the lead to one point at 21-20, but the Pirates bounced back with three straight points and a kill by Cherise Hennigan (Corona, Calif.) put the Pirates in set point, 24-21. Georgetown scored the next two points, but a Hoya attack error gave the first set to The Hall, 25-23.

The Pirates scored five of the first six points in set two, but the Hoyas bounced back with a 7-2 run to take an 8-7 lead. With Georgetown ahead, 18-15, Seton Hall scored six straight, and a kill by Schroeder gave The Hall a 21-18 advantage. The Hoyas rallied to tie the set at 23, but back-to-back kills by Abby Thelen (Ft. Mitchell, Ky.) and Gasser provided a second straight 25-23 set victory.

In set three, Georgetown jumped out to an 8-5 lead. But Seton Hall rebounded with a 12-4 run, and a kill by Sophia Coffey (Sierra Madre, Calif.) gave the Pirates a 17-12 advantage and forced a Hoya timeout. With The Hall ahead 23-18, the Hoyas scored five straight to tie the set at 23. After Georgetown staved off one Seton Hall match point, the Pirates won the match with back-to-back points once the score was tied at 24.

Inside the Numbers:
- Gasser had just one attack error to go with her 10 kills for a team-best .429 attack percentage. She also had two digs and three blocks.
- Coffey finished with a team-high 22 assists and five digs.
- Thelen and senior Tessa Fournier (Redondo Beach, Calif.) led the Pirates with nine digs apiece.
- Schroeder reached double-figures in kills for the sixth straight match and the 12th time in 17 matches this season.
- The Pirates improves to 14-22 all-time against Georgetown.
- Seton Hall improves to 3-3 on the road in 2016.
- Seton Hall improves to 4-5 in three-set matches this season.
The Pirates will return to action on Saturday, October 1 when they make the short trip to Queens, N.Y. for a match against St. John's. Match time is scheduled for 2:00 p.m.
