Jackson Sets Career-High In Setback At Butler
1/2/2017 8:26:00 PM | Women's Basketball
INDIANAPOLIS – Despite a career-high 25 points from JaQuan Jackson (Killeen, Texas) the Seton Hall women's basketball team (8-5, 1-1 BIG EAST) fell by a score of 79-58 at Butler (4-10, 1-2) on Monday night at Historic Hinkle Fieldhouse.
Jackson finished as the lone Pirate in double-figures in the setback, while Tori Schickel (23 points, 16 rebounds) and Kristen Spolyar (28 points, 10 rebounds) both finished with huge double-doubles to pace the Bulldogs. The Pirates were held below 30 percent from the floor for only the second time this season while BU became The Hall's first opponent to shoot 50.0 percent from the floor.
Turning Points
After a close first half, the Pirates went into the halftime break down by five at 33-28. A cold shooting spell compared to a strong effort from the Bulldogs in the third quarter helped BU earn a 23-12 scoring edge in the period, building a double-digit lead they would not relent.
Inside The Numbers
- Seton Hall finished 19-of-64 (29.7 percent) from the floor and 10-for-35 (28.6) from 3-point range
- Conversely, Butler shot 30-of-60 from the field to finish at an even 50.0 percent
- The Bulldogs won the rebounding battle 44-32, with LaTecia Smith (Gardena, Calif.) topping the Pirates with seven caroms
- The Pirates won the turnover battle, 18-16, but BU held a 20-11 edge in points off turnovers
- The Hall finished with 13 steals compared to 11 for BU
- Jackson has scored in double-figures in all 10 games during her Seton Hall career and hit the 20-point mark for the third time
- Jackson's 25 points are the most for any Pirate this season
- Kaela Hilaire (Floral Park, N.Y.) finished with seven assists; she has recorded five or more assists in a game seven times during her rookie campaign and has 14 helpers over her last two contests
- The Hall falls to 4-3 all-time against Butler, with BU snapping a four-game losing streak in the series
- Seton Hall has recorded double-digit steals in 11 of 13 contests, with Jackson leading the way with three
The Pirates continue a Midwest road swing when they head to Cincinnati to take on Xavier on Wednesday night. Tip-off from the Cintas Center is set for 7 p.m. on the BIG EAST Digital Network.
