South Orange, N.J. - Â Seniors Angel Delgado (Bajos De Haina, Dominican Republic) and Desi Rodriguez (Bronx, N.Y.) combined for 35 points and 17 rebounds as the No. 15 Seton Hall men's basketball team defeated Saint Peter's, 84-61, inside historic Walsh Gymnasium on Tuesday for its fifth straight win.
Delgado collected his BIG EAST-leading seventh double-double of the season to lead all players with 18 points, on 7-for-11 shooting, and 11 rebounds. Â Rodriguez was also 7-for-11 from the field, including a trio of three-pointers, to finish with 17 points and six rebounds.
Seton Hall is off to a 9-1 start for the third time under head coach Kevin Willard.
Turning Point:
Seton Hall never trailed in the game as its defensive pressure set the tone at the very start. Â The Pirates scored 12 of the first 14 points and limited Saint Peter's to just two points over the game's first 7:39. Â The Hall's lead ballooned to 26-8 with 7:14 to go in the first half when senior Khadeen Carrington (Brooklyn, N.Y.) completed a three-point play after getting fouled on his way to the hoop.Â
With under a minute left before halftime, Rodriguez found Delgado inside for an uncontested lay-in and the Pirates took their largest lead of the half into the break, 42-23.
The Hall's stingy defense held the Peacocks to just 30.3% (8-for-27) shooting from the floor in the first half.
Out of the break, Seton Hall continued its onslaught. The Pirates lead never dipped below 16 points, and grew to as many as 28 points on a layup by Delgado with 3:54 remaining in the contest.
