The Hall Drops Friday Night Contest at Creighton
2/17/2017 10:15:00 PM | Women's Basketball
OMAHA, Neb. – The Seton Hall women's basketball team (11-16, 4-12 BIG EAST) dropped a 61-44 decision at Creighton (19-6, 13-2 BIG EAST) on Friday night at D.J. Sokol Arena. The contest for The Hall was the first of a three-game road trip to close out the regular season.
Both sides came out quiet offensively, combining for only 16 points in the first quarter and 38 in the first half. Creighton took a 24-14 lead to the break, and used a 21-12 edge in the third quarter to pull ahead by double-digits for good.
For The Hall, LaTecia Smith (Gardena, Calif.) narrowly missed her second career double-double with eight points and 10 rebounds, while Kaela Hilaire (Floral Park, N.Y.) added eight points, eight rebounds and five assists. Sydney Lamberty led three Bluejays in double-figures with 23 points.
Turning Point
Down 12 early in the third quarter, the Pirates rattled off five-straight points early in the frame to force a Creighton timeout following a Claire Lundberg (Andover, Minn.) 3-pointer that cut the lead to 26-19. The Bluejays responded to the timeout emphatically, reeling off a 10-0 to force a Seton Hall timeout midway through the quarter. That big run helped Creighton build a 45-26 lead after three quarters in their eventual triumph.
