The Hall Falls At No. 17 DePaul On Sunday

CHICAGO – The Seton Hall women's basketball team (11-3, 4-9 BIG EAST) fell in an 86-60 decision at No. 17 DePaul on Sunday afternoon at McGrath-Phillips Arena. With the setback, the Pirates dropped both ends of a two-game BIG EAST weekend road trip.
Kaela Hilaire (Floral Park, N.Y.) led three Pirates in double-figures in the setback, scoring 12 points along with a game-high seven assists. Also hitting double-digits for The Hall were Lubirdia Gordon (Mount Vernon, N.Y.) and JaQuan Jackson (Killeen, Texas) who each finished with 10. For DePaul, it was Brooke Schulte going for 22 points and 12 rebounds and Tanita Allen adding 19 points off the bench.
Turning Points
Down 12 after a quarter the Pirates showed some early fight, out-scoring DePaul 24-17 in the second period and ending the frame on an 11-4 run to cut the deficit to five at 39-34. Hilaire capped the late quarter run with a buzzer-beating lay-in as time expired in the opening half.
The Hall scored the first basket of the second half to pull within a possession, but the Blue Demons answered with a 15-2 run to swell the lead to 54-38 and force a timeout with 6:16 to play in the third. Overall, DePaul used a 29-14 edge in the third quarter to balloon their lead to 20 after three and put the contest out of reach.
Inside The Numbers
- The Pirates shot 35.5 percent from the floor and 30.0 percent from 3-point range compared to 38.8 percent and 18.2 percent marks for the Blue Demons
- DePaul finished with a 61-35 edge on the glass, including 25 offensive rebounds leading to a 25-7 edge in second chance points
- The Hall dropped the turnover battle, 21-12, with DPU holding a 24-7 edge in points off turnovers
- The Hall finished 10-for-12 from the free throw line (83.3 percent), including a 4-4 performance from Hilaire
- Hilaire scored in double-figures for the 13th time during her freshman season, while her seven assists were her most Jan. 2 at Butler
- The Pirates fall to 4-14 all-time against DePaul and lost for the first time in their last three road games in the series
- Claire Lundberg (Andover, Minn.) has hit a 3-pointer in 20-of-24 games this season and hit multiple triples in a game for the 13th time this year
- Gordon finished 5-for-5 from the floor to improve her league-leading field goal percentage to 60.0 percent overall and 64.1 percent in conference play
The Pirates return home next weekend for their final two contests of 2016-17 at Walsh Gym. First up is Georgetown on Friday, Feb. 10 at 7 p.m.
