NORMAN, OKLA. – Seton Hall's Lloyd Jefferson Go (Guadalupe Cebu City, Philippines) and Linus Yip (Sydney, Australia) were named 2017 Cleveland Golf/Srixon All-America Scholars by the Golf Coaches Association of America (GCAA).
A record total of 260 players in Division I, 108 in Division II and 20 in NAIA earned the honor. Additionally, 46 honorees were added to the previously released Division III Cleveland Golf/Srixon All-America Scholars. To be eligible for Cleveland Golf/Srixon All-America Scholar status an individual must be a junior or senior academically, compete in at least three full years at the collegiate level, participate in 50-percent of his team's competitive rounds, have a stroke-average under 76.0 in Division I, 78.0 in Division II, 78.0 in NAIA and 79.0 in Division III, and maintain a minimum cumulative grade-point average of 3.2. A recipient must also be of high moral character and be in good standing at his college or university.
Go repeated as BIG EAST Men's Golf Player of the Year and became the first four-time All-BIG EAST performer in Seton Hall history. Already arguably Seton Hall's greatest golfer, Go shot a career-best stroke average of 71.29, which led the BIG EAST Conference. In 11 tournaments in 2016-17, he recorded eight top-10 finishes, seven top-5 finishes and won the Princeton Invitational. He had five sub-par tournaments this year, including a Seton Hall par-72 record, 11-under par, 205, at the Loyola Invitational. Go's 7-under-par, 203, at The Doc Gimmler this fall broke the Seton Hall par-70 tournament record by six strokes. Go was named BIG EAST Golfer of the Week three times this year, and capped his collegiate career by receiving an at large bid to the NCAA Regionals, the second straight year he has played in the marquee event.
Yip transferred to Seton Hall prior to the 2016-17 year from the University of Arkansas-Little Rock. The junior competed in 10 of 11 tournaments and registered an impressive 75.71 stroke average. Yip fired three sub-par rounds, including 2-under performances in the second round of The Doc Gimmler and the third round of the Price's Give'Em Five Invitational. His top tournament performances in his first year as a Pirate included 1-over-par showings at The Doc Gimmler and the Loyola Intercollegiate.
The Pirates will return to the links when the fall season opens on September 9 for the first two of three rounds at the Alex Lagowitz Memorial, hosted by Colgate University in Hamilton, N.Y.
