
Newcomers Shine in Victory at Montclair State

Montclair, N.J. – Four different freshmen won six individual events as the Seton Hall men's swimming & diving team cruised to a 134-66 victory and set two pool records at Montclair State on Friday night.
The Pirates (1-1) kicked off the meet with a pool-record time of 1:34.99 in the 200 medley relay behind the efforts of sophomore Liam Cosgrove (Sea Girt, N.J.), junior Josh Tosoni (Arnold, Md.), freshman Ben Puglessi (Ada, Mich.) and freshman Joe Gibson (Chicago, Ill.).
Gibson then set another pool record after clocking a 9:46.78 in the 1000 free, while Puglessi swam a 47.41 to win the 100 fly. Fellow freshman Ben LaClair (Belchertown, Mass.) won the 50 free, 100 back, and was part of the 400 free relay that won in exhibition late in the meet.
Looking ahead, the Pirates will compete against West Virginia and BIG EAST foes Butler and Xavier Oct. 19-20 at the West Virginia Tri-Meet in Morgantown, W. Va.
