NEW YORK – Junior Joe Gibson (Chicago, Ill.) and sophomore Taylor Jackson (Thornton, Colo.) were named BIG EAST Swimmer of the Week on Tuesday, following a pair of event wins at West Virginia last week against Xavier and the host Mountaineers.
Gibson was victorious in the 1000-yard freestyle with a time of 9:46.12, which is second-best in the BIG EAST this year. He finished third in the 500-yard freestyle, coming in at 4:40.11. That time is the fastest in the league so far this season. Gibson also swam the leadoff leg on the Pirates' runner-up 400-yard freestyle relay squad that was clocked at 3:08.35. Their time is second-best in the conference.
Jackson captured first place on the 3-meter board with a score of 252.75 against West Virginia as the only win for the Pirate women. Her competition included the reigning Big 12 Diver of the Week. Her 1-meter score is currently 19th overall in the nation.
