Seton Hall heads back on the road this weekend for a pair of BIG EAST Conference contests. The Pirates will first travel to Cincinnati for a contest against Xavier on Friday. Match time is scheduled for a 7:00 p.m. start. On Saturday, The Hall will head to Indianapolis for a match against Butler. That one will begin at 6:00 p.m.Â
Â
LAST WEEKEND
Last weekend, the Pirates split a pair of BIG EAST matches at Walsh Gym, both in three sets. On Friday, The Hall swept Georgetown, but fell in three sets against Villanova on Saturday.Â
Â
Junior Haylee Gasser (Mission Viejo, Calif.) had a team-high 10 kills as the Pirates completed a three-set sweep of Georgetown, 3-0 (27-25, 25-19, 25-23), on Friday. Gasser had 10 kills, only one attack error, a team-best .500 attack percentage and four blocks in a strong all-around match for the Pirates. Senior Sophia Coffey (Sierra Madre, Calif.) finished two digs shy of a double-double, registering a team-high 29 assists and eight digs.
Â
On Saturday, Coffey had a double-double, and The Hall pushed Villanova to its limit in all three sets, but ultimately fell, 3-0 (23-25, 23-25, 23-25). Coffey finished with a team-high 26 assists to go with 11 digs and five kills in a strong all-around match. Senior Cherise Hennigan (Corona, Calif.) led The Hall with nine kills.
Â
For her efforts last weekend, Gasser was named to the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll.
Â
SCOUTING XAVIER
Seton Hall and Xavier will meet for the second time this season and 12th time in history on Friday. Xavier owns an 8-3 all-time series lead, including a four-set victory earlier this season at Walsh Gym.
Â
Senior Abby Thelen (Ft. Mitchell, Ky.) had a match-high 19 kills and only one attack error, but the Pirates fell to Xavier, 3-1 (25-14, 20-25, 20-25, 22-25), on Sept. 22 in South Orange. Thelen offensive outburst was as efficient as it was impressive. She also had a team-best .529 attack percentage. Senior Caitlin Koska (Franklin, Wis.) tallied a double-double with 11 kills and 12 digs, while Coffey tallied a season-high 43 assists.
Â
Xavier enters the weekend with a 7-15 overall record and a 5-6 mark in BIG EAST Conference play. They are 3-3 at the Cintas Center this season. The Musketeers have won two of their last three matches with four-set wins at Butler, and most recently at Providence. Their last loss was a five-set set back at No. 10 Creighton on Friday. Laura Grossman leads their team with 2.91 kills per set.
Â
SCOUTING BUTLER
Seton Hall and Butler will meet for the second time this season and 12th time in history. The Bulldogs own a slim 6-5 all-time series lead in the series by virtue of a three-set victory over the Pirates earlier this season at Walsh Gym.
Â
Sophia Coffey had 16 assists and five digs, but the Pirates dropped their BIG EAST home opener to Butler, 3-0 (13-25, 24-26, 20-25), on Sept. 21 at Walsh Gym. Caitlin Koska led the Pirates offensively with nine kills. Senior Miranda Higginbotham (Dallas, Texas) had a team-best seven digs.
Â
Butler enters the weekend with a 7-16 overall record and a 4-7 mark in BIG EAST Conference play. The Bulldogs have dropped three of their last four matches, and five of their last seven.  Like Xavier, they are coming off a split of their last weekend series with a victory at Providence and a loss to No. 10 Creighton. Gregory Brooke leads Butler with 2.88 kills per set.
