South Orange, N.J. - In college basketball, you have to win your home games. It's as simple as that.
It will be no small task for the Pirates, who have some tough games at Prudential Center this season, including Saturday's clash with the favorites of the Atlantic 10 Conference, the Saint Louis Billikens. What helps Seton Hall win home games? You, the fan. The Pirates are hoping you can make it down to Newark for the 8 p.m. game.
Saturday's game is an FS2 affair with Dave Sims and Jim Spanarkel on the call. You can also catch it on the FOX Sports GO app. Gary Cohen and Dave Popkin will deliver the radio broadcast, including the exclusive pregame interview with head coach Kevin Willard, on AM970 The Answer, simulcast on XM 390, the Pirate Sports Network and the SHU Pirates Mobile App.
Three Things to Know About Saturday's Game vs. Saint Louis
1. A long streak is on the line.
Seton Hall has won 29 consecutive non-conference home games, which dates back to Dec. 22, 2013. So it's been almost five years since a non-BIG EAST opponent has come to New Jersey and beaten the Pirates. This streak is tied for sixth-longest active in the country right now. Two other BIG EAST schools who were ahead of Seton Hall at the start of the season, Villanova & Xavier, both saw their streaks come to an end this week. The Pirates need to avoid the same fate. In 11 seasons playing at Prudential Center, the Pirates have only lost eight non-conference home games.
2. Sharing is caring.
Seton Hall had 20 assists on 30 made field goals in the season opener against Wagner. Then at Nebraska on Wednesday, the Pirates only had three assists on their 21 made field goals. Needless to say, the ball movement needs to be more like the Wagner game than the Nebraska game.Â
3. Hosting an Atlantic 10 team is a rarity.
The Atlantic 10 has many programs nearby to New Jersey, and yet Saint Louis will be just the fifth Atlantic 10 team to visit the Pirates since Kevin Willard took over as head coach in 2010. The Pirates are 2-2 in Atlantic 10 games at Prudential Center; they lost to Dayton and Richmond in back-to-back games in December 2010, Willard's first season, defeated George Washington in December 2014 and toppled VCU in December 2017.
