
Coffey Leads Pirates on Senior Night

SOUTH ORANGE, N.J. – Senior Sophia Coffey (Sierra Madre, Calif.) recorded a double-double, but the Seton Hall women's volleyball team fell to St. John's, 3-0 (18-25, 15-25, 16-25), on Senior Night in Walsh Gym, Friday.
Coffey had team-highs of 23 assists and 10 digs to go with three kills and a .400 attack percentage in her final career home match. She is only five digs shy of 1,000 for her career with two road matches remaining.
SET 1:
The Pirates got out of the gate fast, and a service ace by senior Caitlin Koska (Franklin, Wis.) gave them a 10-5 lead and forced a St. John's timeout. But out of the break, the Red Storm rallied with a 10-3 run to take a 15-13 advantage. The Hall bounced back to tie the set at 16, but St. John's went on an 8-1 run to enter set point, 24-17. Two points later, they closed out the set, 25-18.
SET 2:
Seton Hall again led early in set two, but the Red Storm caught up and jumped ahead. A kill by sophomore Amanda Rachwal (Bethlehem, Pa.) cut the St. John's lead to 11-10, but the Red Storm responded with five of the next six points to take a 16-11 advantage. A block by senior Abby Thelen (Ft. Mitchell, Ky.) and junior Haylee Gasser (Mission Viejo, Calif.) cut the deficit to 19-15, but St. John's finished the set with a 6-0 spurt. Koska had five of her team-best nine kills in set two alone.
SET 3:
Trailing 10-7 in set three, the Pirates scored three straight points, including a kill by Thelen to tie the score at 10. The Red Storm however, responded with a 7-1 run to take a 17-11 advantage, and never looked back. St. John's went on to complete the sweep with a 25-16 third set win.
The Pirates will be back in action on Friday, Nov. 16 when it begins its final road trip of the 2018 season. The Hall will travel to Milwaukee for a match against No. 18 Marquette. Match time is scheduled for 8:00 p.m. ET.

- Seton Hall recorded a .085 attack percentage for the match, while St. John's attacked at .343.
- The Pirates had 29 kills, while the Red Storm recorded 50.
- The Hall finished with 38 digs, while St. John's tallied 51.
- Seton Hall falls to 9-20 overall and 4-12 in the BIG EAST, while St. John's improves to 22-9 overall and 11-5 in conference play.
- The Pirates are now 17-14 all-time against the Red Storm.
- The Pirates fall to 5-12 in three-set matches.
- Coffey notched the team-leading 38th double-double of her career and her seventh of the season.
- Tonight marked the final home match in the collegiate careers of Coffey, Koska, Thelen, Cherise Hennigan (Corona, Calif.) and Miranda Higginbotham (Dallas, Texas).
