SECAUCAS, N.J. – Seton Hall's Ryan Ramiz (Freehold, N.J.) was selected in the 23rd round of the 2018 Major League Baseball First-Year Player Draft by the Seattle Mariners on Wednesday.
Ramiz becomes the fourth Seton Hall player selected in the 2018 Draft, joining former teammates Billy Layne, Jr., Andrew Politi and Shane McCarthy, who were selected earlier in the day. Ramiz is the first Pirate chosen by the Mariners since Joe DiRocco in 2011.
One of only four unanimous selections to the All-BIG EAST First Team, Ramiz capped his stellar four-year career ranked among Seton Hall's top-10 in games played, at bats, triples and walks.
On May 27 in Seton Hall's first game against St. John's on Championship Sunday of the BIG EAST Tournament, Ramiz went 3-for-6 with a double, a triple, a walk, a run scored and a season-high four RBIs. His effort, in part, sent the Pirates to the BIG EAST Championship Game.
A three-time Academic All-Star, Ramiz received Seton Hall's Academic Merit Award for graduating with at least a 3.2 cumulative grade point average.

Ramiz was named to the All-BIG EAST Second Team in 2017, but took his game to a new level in 2018. Named to the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll on April 16, he orchestrated one of the great "turnarounds" to a season in recent history. Ramiz was just 4-for-33 to start the season (.121), but batted .362 in the 41 games afterward. In conference-only games, he led the BIG EAST with a .429 batting average and a .528 on-base percentage. Ramiz also ranked among the conference's top-10 in hits, doubles, walks and RBIs.CONGRATULATIONS to RYAN RAMIZ selected in the 23rd round (688 overall) by the Seattle Mariners of the 2018 MLB Draft.#HALLin @Mariners @BIGEASTchamps @RyanRamiz20 pic.twitter.com/6avtd5ZPei
