Christopher Shines as Pirates Get Past Hofstra, 6-2

South Orange, N.J. – Mason Christopher dazzled once again, allowing just three hits and two runs over six innings of work as the Pirates took the rubber match of their weekend series with Hofstra on Sunday, 6-2.
How it Happened
The Hall's bats made noise early, scoring four times in the second to grab an early lead. After three straight singles to open the frame, Magnus Krieger laced a double over the head of the center fielder to plate the first two runs of the day. Two productive outs followed, as Frankie Scrivanic had an RBI groundout and Tommy Manzo hit a sacrifice fly to give the hosts a 4-0 lead.
On the mound, Christopher was cruising. The lefty set down the first 13 batters he faced, allowing his first hit of the day with one out in the top of the fifth. Hofstra was able to tack on two runs against Christopher in the fifth, but the sophomore was able to work a clean sixth to end his outing on a high note.
The Pirates were able to get those two runs back in the sixth. Acker and Krieger led off the inning with singles, and a fly ball from Scrivanic moved Acker down to third with one out. Tommy Manzo executed a perfect safety squeeze bunt up the first base line, scoring Acker with the fifth Seton Hall run. Gabe Cavazzoni stepped in as the lineup flipped back over and rocketed an RBI triple to the gap in right center, scoring Krieger to give Seton Hall a 6-2 edge.
The Pirate bullpen closed the door from there. Stephen Curry worked two scoreless innings, but surrendered a double to lead off the top of the ninth. John Higgins came on to finish the job, working himself into and out of a bases loaded jam to preserve the victory.
