NORMAN, OKLA. – Seton Hall's Gen Nagai (Mandaue Cebu City, Philippines), Chris Yeom (Flushing, N.Y.) and Linus Yip (Sydney, Australia) were named 2018 Srixon/Cleveland Golf All-America Scholars by the Golf Coaches Association of America (GCAA).
A record total of 270 players in Division I, 127 in Division II and 24 in NAIA earned the honor. Additionally, 62 honorees were added to the previously released Division III Cleveland Golf/Srixon All-America Scholars. To be eligible for Srixon/Cleveland Golf All-America Scholar status an individual must be a junior or senior academically, compete in at least three full years at the collegiate level, participate in 50-percent of his team's competitive rounds, have a stroke-average under 76.0 in Division I, 78.0 in Division II, 78.0 in NAIA and 79.0 in Division III, and maintain a minimum cumulative career grade-point average of 3.2. A recipient must also be of high moral character and be in good standing at his college or university.
Named BIG EAST Golfer of the Week on Sept. 21, Nagai competed in 10 tournaments for the Pirates during the 2017-18 year and finished 11th in the BIG EAST Conference with a 73.90 scoring average. He had two top-10 finishes, but his top performance of the year was a career-best 8-under-par, 68-71-69-208, at the Loyola Invitational, the fifth-lowest three-round, par-72 score in Pirate history.
A First Team All-BIG EAST and All-Region selection, Yeom shaved more than two full strokes off his scoring average from a year ago, and finished the year leading the BIG EAST with a 71.66 average. A three-time BIG EAST Golfer of the Week, he had eight top-10 finishes and four top-5 finishes, and was named to the All-Tournament Team for a second place tie at the BIG EAST Championship, shooting even-par at Callawassie Island. Yeom's crowning moment of the year was a historic 13-under-par, 66-69-68-203 at the Loyola Invitational, which broke the Seton Hall record for a par-72, three-round record.
Seton Hall's lone senior on last year's squad, Yip competed in all 11 tournaments and maintained a stellar 75.66 scoring average. An Academic Merit Award recipient, he had two sub-par tournaments, including a career-best 5-under-par, 71-75-65-211, at the Loyola Invitational. Yip's third round 65 is tied for the lowest par-72 single-round score ever for a Pirate.
The Pirates will return to the links when the fall season opens on September 8 for the first two of three rounds at the Alex Lagowitz Memorial, hosted by Colgate University in Hamilton, N.Y.
