Pirates Fight to 2-2 Draw at LIU Brooklyn
9/19/2018 8:48:00 PM | Women's Soccer
Brooklyn, N.Y. – Junior Siobhan McGovern (Cranford, N.J.) scored twice and converted a penalty kick in the 82nd minute for the equalizer as the Pirates fought LIU Brooklyn to a 2-2 draw on Wednesday night in the non-conference finale.
Turning Point
The Pirates (2-3-4) trailed 1-0 in the first half after a 24th minute tally by LIU Brooklyn (2-6-2), but McGovern scored the equalizer at 30:33 when she buried the rebound off a thunderous strike off the crossbar by sophomore Dani Camilleri (Mississauga, Ontario).
However, less than two minutes later a foul was called on the Pirates when an LIU attacker was taken down in the box. LIU then converted the penalty kick to pull ahead, 2-1, in the 33rd minute.
Neither team was able to create many quality chances over the next 50 minutes, but a handball by LIU in its own box allowed McGovern the opportunity to even the match with a perfectly executed penalty kick.
Goals
23:26– LIU Brooklyn – Kimberly Butland (2) off rebound four yards out
30:33 – Seton Hall – Siobhan McGovern (1) rebound off Camilleri's shot off crossbar
32:07 – LIU Brooklyn – Marian Awad (6) penalty kick
81:50 – Seton Hall – Siobhan McGovern (2) penalty kick
