
The Hall Drops Four-Setter at Villanova

VILLANOVA, PA. – Junior Amanda Rachwal (Bethlehem, Pa.) had a team-high 12 kills and senior Haylee Gasser (Mission Viejo, Calif.) notched a double-double, but the Seton Hall women's volleyball team fell at Villanova, 3-1 (19-25, 25-20, 16-25, 13-25), on Wednesday.

Rachwal had 12 kills, three digs and two blocks, while Gasser tallied her second career double-double with 11 kills and 12 digs.

Freshman Reece Koehler (Stillwater, Minn.) had nine kills and no attack errors in a strong offensive match. Senior Maggie Cvelbar (Euclid, Ohio) finished with a team-high 31 assists to go with seven digs and three kills.

SET 1:
Trailing 10-7 in the first set, the Pirate scored three straight points, and a kill by Gasser tied the score at 10. After Villanova re-took the lead, a kill by Koehler cut the Pirates' deficit to 15-14, but the Wildcats responded with a 6-1 run to take a 21-15 advantage. Villanova went on to claim the first set, 25-19.

SET 2:
Seton Hall roared back in the second set. With the score tied at six, the Pirates scored seven of the next nine points, and a kill by Cvelbar gave then a 13-8 lead. Another kill by Cvelbar gave The Hall its largest lead of the set, 21-14. From there, Villanova didn't get closer than a four-point deficit as Seton Hall went on to tie the match with a 25-20 set two victory.

A kill by Julia Wilkins (Mason, Ohio) in set three gave the Pirates an 11-9 lead, but Villanova bounced back with five unanswered points to jump ahead, 14-11, and The Hall never led again. A kill by Koehler cut The Hall's deficit to 16-14, but the Wildcats finished the set with a 9-2 run to win, 25-16.

With the fourth set tied at eight, Villanova went on a 7-0 run to take a commanding 15-8 lead. Ahead 20-13, the Wildcats closed out the match by scoring five straight points to win set four, 25-13.

Seton Hall will return to action on Friday, Oct. 25 when they return to Walsh Gymnasium for a BIG EAST contest against DePaul. Match time is scheduled for Noon ET.
