
Pirates Fall Despite Rachwal's Career Day

SOUTH ORANGE, N.J. – Junior Amanda Rachwal (Bethlehem, Pa.) recorded a career-high 19 kills without making an attack error, but the Seton Hall women's volleyball team fell in four sets to DePaul, 3-1 (17-25, 25-21, 17-25, 21-25), on Friday.

Rachwal's 19 kills came on 32 attacks for a team-best .593 attack percentage. She also had five digs and blocked two attacks.Â

Freshman Reece Koehler (Stillwater, Minn.) finished with 12 kills, while senior Maggie Cvelbar (Euclid, Ohio) had a match-high 40 assists.

SET 1:
DePaul led the first set wire-to-wire, scoring the first four points of the set, and never trailing. The Hall kept the set close however, and a kill by Julia Wilkins (Mason, Ohio) cut the Pirates' deficit to 8-7. The Blue Demons responded with a 10-0 run to take a commanding 18-7 lead. They went on to win, 25-17.

In set two, it was the Pirates who took control early and didn't relent. Trailing 3-2, The Hall went on a 10-1 run, and a kill by Rachwal gave it a commanding 12-4 lead. DePaul cut the Pirates lead to one, 21-20, late. Out of a timeout however, Seton Hall regrouped and scored four of the final five points of the set to win, 25-21, and tie the match at one set apiece.

With the score tied at seven early in set three, the Blue Demons went on an 8-1 run to take a commanding 15-8 advantage. From there, The Hall couldn't cut the deficit to fewer than five points in another 25-17 DePaul victory.

The fourth set was the closest of the match, featuring six ties. With the score knotted at eight, DePaul scored four of the next five points to open a modest advantage. A kill by Madison Salkowski (Cold Spring, Ky.) cut the Blue Demons' lead to 22-19 late, but DePaul was able to close out a 25-21 fourth set win.

Seton Hall will return to action tomorrow when they return to Walsh Gymnasium for a BIG EAST contest against No. 11 Marquette. Match time is scheduled for 5:00 p.m. ET.
