10/19/2019 7:40:00 PM | Women's Golf
REHOBOTH BEACH, DEL. – Junior Mia Kness (Venetia, Pa.) fired a Seton Hall single-round record with a 7-under-par, 65, in round one to lift the Seton Hall women's golf team to a second place standing after two rounds of the 2019 Delaware Lady Blue Hen Invitational.
Â
Simply put, Kness' opening round on Saturday was the greatest single round in the history of the Seton Hall women's golf program. The performance was without blemish as she used seven birdies and 11 pars to shatter The Hall's par-72 single-round mark by three strokes.
Â
Although Kness struggled a bit in round two, she's still in the top-10 entering Sunday's final round. Currently, she'd tied for seventh with a 2-over-par, 65-81-146.
Â
One of the players tied with Kness is teammate Carolina Ronchel Salas (Huelva, Spain). While Kness' rounds were separated by 16 strokes, Ronchel Salas was consistent as ever. The senior had 14 pars in the first round and a trio of birdies in the second round to fuel a 2-over-par, 73-73-146.
Â
As a team, the Pirates were the team leader after a 3-under-par, 285, in round one. It tied for their second-lowest single round in Pirate history. The Hall followed it up with an 8-over-par, 296, in the afternoon. Through two rounds, they are 5-over-par with a 285-296-581, and trail the team leaders, Pennsylvania, by 12 strokes entering Sunday's final round. The Quakers shot an 8-under-par, 280, in round two to take the team lead.
Â
Seton Hall's lone BIG EAST competition in the field, Georgetown, is currently in fourth place, nine strokes behind the Pirates.
Lizzie Win (Sylvania, Ohio) rode 16 pars in the opening round to an even-par, 72. She shot a 4-over-par, 76, in round two, but is still within range for a top-10 finish. Currently, she is tied for 15th with a 4-over-par, 72-76-148.
Â
Only one stroke behind Win is teammate Maddie Sager (Phoenixville, Pa.). The senior had three birdies in the first round in route to a 3-over-par, 75. In round two, she shaved off one stroke to finish with a 2-over-par, 74. Through two rounds, she is tied for 18th place with a 5-over-par, 75-74-149.
Â
Sophomore Sarah Fouratt (Santa Maria, Calif.) rounded out the Pirates team scoring on Saturday. She made the biggest jump from round one to round two. After shooting a 10-over-par, 82, in round one, she used three birdies to shave off nine strokes, finishing with a 1-over-par, 73, in round two. Fouratt is currently tied for 38th place with an 11-over-par, 82-73-155.
Â
