
Wilkins Shines, But Pirates Fall to Creighton

SOUTH ORANGE, N.J. – Freshman Julia Wilkins (Mason, Ohio) recorded a match-high 13 kills, but the Seton Hall women's volleyball team fell in straight sets to No. 14 Creighton, 3-0 (19-25, 16-25, 12-25), on Saturday.

Wilkins had 13 kills, only four attack errors and a team-best .290 attack percentage. Senior Maggie Cvelbar (Euclid, Ohio) registered her sixth double-double in the last seven matches with 21 assists and 10 digs.Â

SET 1:
Seton Hall came ready to go toe-to-toe with the No. 14 team in the country in a first set that featured eight ties and eight lead changes. Trailing 9-5, the Pirates went on an 8-3 run, and a service ace by libero Raygan Murray (Rocky River, Ohio), gave them a 13-12 lead. Down 19-18, Creighton called a timeout, and out of the break, finished the set with seven straight points to win, 25-19.

SET 2:
Seton Hall never led in the second set as Creighton set the tone early by scoring the set's first seven points. Down 10-2, the Pirates scored four straight, but the Bluejays responded with three straight of their own to pad their lead up to 13-7. A kill by Amanda Rachwal (Bethlehem, Pa.) cut the Bluejay lead to 20-15, but Creighton closed the set with a 5-1 run.

With the score tied at two early in set three, Creighton seized control with a 7-1 run. A kill by Emilee Turner (Kaysville, Utah) cut the Bluejay lead to 14-7, but they took off again with a 6-2 run to grab a commanding 20-9 advantage. Creighton went on to close out the match with a 25-12 final set victory.

Seton Hall will return to action when they host Georgetown on Wednesday, Oct. 9 at Walsh Gym. Match time is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. ET.
