
Elmore, Pirates Outlasted by Lehigh, 75-68

BETHLEHEM, PA. – Junior Desiree Elmore (Hartford, Conn.) had a team-high 20 points and a career-high 16 rebounds, but the Seton Hall women's basketball team was defeated by Lehigh, 75-68, on Friday.

Elmore scored 20 points on 8-for-13 shooting, and had 15 points in the second half alone. In all, four Pirates scored in double-figures. Senior Alexis Lewis (Pittston, Pa.) finished with 17 points and seven rebounds. Barbara Johnson (Toronto, Ontario) netted 12 points, while freshman Mya Jackson (Wilmington, Ohio) chipped in 11 points.

Seton Hall got off to a slow start in the first quarter, connecting on only two of their first nine shots, as Lehigh built a 12-5 early lead. The Pirates stormed back with an 8-2 run to cut their deficit to 14-13 with 2:21 remaining in the first quarter.

Johnson's three-pointer with 6:10 left in the first half gave The Hall its first lead of the game, 24-23. With the score tied at 30, the Mountain Hawks scored seven of the next nine points to claim a 37-32 advantage with only 1:11 left in the half. The went on to take a six-point lead, 40-34, into the break. The Hall trailed at the half by only six points despite being out-rebounded by nine and shooting only 32.4% from the floor.

Lehigh's Camryn Buhr hit a three-pointer with 6:07 left in the third quarter to give the Mountain Hawks their largest lead of the game, 47-38. The Pirates however, responded with a 12-2 run, and a pair of made free-throws by Lewis put them back on top, 50-49.

Seton Hall took a one-point lead into the fourth quarter, but it shot only 33.3% in the final quarter, and were only 1-for-5 from downtown. Although the contest remained a one possession game for most of the fourth quarter, Lehigh took control late. With 1:23 left in the game, Lewis hit a turnaround jumper to pull The Hall to within one point, 69-68, but the Mountain Hawks closed the game on a 6-0 run to close out their victory.

Seton Hall will return to action on Thursday, Nov. 28 when it travels to the island of Bimini in the Bahamas for the 2019 Junkanoo Jam. The Pirates will open the event with a game against Georgia Tech at 5:15 pm. The game will be streamed live on FloHoops, while WSOU FM will have the radio call.
