LAST WEEKEND
The Pirates dropped a pair of tough road contests last weekend in BIG EAST play. On Friday, freshman Raygan Murray (Rocky River, Ohio) recorded 20 digs, but Pirates fell in three sets at Providence, 3-0 (16-25, 23-25, 20-25). Murray reached the 20-dig mark for the third time this season, and recorded four assists in the Pirates' setback.Â
Â
Offensively, both Haylee Gasser (Mission Viejo, Calif.) and Amanda Rachwal (Bethlehem, Pa.) led The Hall with 12 kills. Senior Maggie Cvelbar (Euclid, Ohio) had a double-double with a match-high 31 assists to go with 11 digs.
Â
On Saturday, Seton Hall ran into a red-hot Creighton squad ranked No. 9 in the country and fell in straight sets, 3-0 (12-25, 12-25, 9-25), in Omaha. Rachwal led the Pirates with five kills and had only one attack error. Cvelbar had seven assists and tied for the team lead with eight digs.
Â
SCOUTING BUTLER
On Friday, the Pirates will be looking to avoid a season sweep at the hands of Butler. On Oct. 12, Cvelbar had 30 assists and nine digs, but the Pirates fell at Butler, 3-0 (13-25, 14-25, 16-25). Cvelbar finished just one dig shy of a double-double for a third straight match. She did however, notch her seventh 30-assist performance of the season.
Â
Gasser and freshman Julia Wilkins (Mason, Ohio) tied for the team lead with eight kills apiece.  Â
Â
Butler enters the weekend with a 10-14 overall record and an 7-5 mark in BIG EAST Conference play. They are in the thick of the BIG EAST Championship playoff race, with the top-4 teams in the conference advancing to the season-ending tournament. Currently, the Bulldogs are tied for the final spot with St. John's.Â
Â
The Bulldogs split a pair of BIG EAST matches last weekend, edging DePaul in Chicago in five sets on Friday before falling in straight sets at home to Marquette on Sunday.
Â
SCOUTING XAVIER
The Pirate are also looking for their first win of the year against the Musketeers. On Oct. 11, Wilkins had a team-high nine kills, but The Hall fell at Xavier, 3-0 (19-25, 23-25, 17-25). In addition to her team-best seven kills, Wilkins also had seven digs and a service ace.Â
Â
Despite a lackluster 9-13 overall record, Xavier's 6-6 conference mark still has them very much in the BIG EAST Championship tournament mix. They enter the weekend only one game out of the final playoff spot with six matches left to play.
Â
Most recently, the Musketeers split a pair of BIG EAST matches last weekend. Xavier was swept at Marquette in Milwaukee on Friday before defeating DePaul at home in four sets on Sunday.
