Welcome to March. Let the Madness begin.
With the turn of the month, Seton Hall is ready to take things to the next level. The Pirates have three critical regular season games to start the month, beginning Saturday at Georgetown, a game that means a ton for both teams. For Seton Hall, it's a quadrant one opportunity and a chance to earn an eighth BIG EAST win, which would put the Pirates in strong position to earn a first-round BIG EAST Tournament bye. For the Hoyas, it is an opportunity to keep their NCAA Tournament hopes alive and also pick up an eighth league win while continuing their rebirth under second-year head coach Patrick Ewing.
March leaves little margin for error, so it's up to the Pirates to take advantage of the opportunities in front of them.Â
Saturday night will be Seton Hall's final appearance on CBS Sports Network this season, and Tom McCarthy and Bob Wenzel will have the call. Dave Popkin and John Fanta will team up for the final time this season on the radio broadcast that includes the exclusive Kevin Willard pregame report on AM 970 The Answer, simulcast on XM 380 and the Pirate Sports Network.
Three Things to Know About Saturday Night in Our Nation's Capital
 1. Georgetown Has a Young Backcourt
The Pirates took advantage of Georgetown's inexperienced backcourt in the first meeting. James Akinjo and Mac McClung combined for just nine points on 2-of-11 shooting, six turnovers and just one assist. Overall this season, the pair average a combined 26 points and 7.4 assists per game. With the Hoyas also having an excellent interior led by Jessie Govan, the Pirates will want to clone their first-game efforts and make Akinjo and McClung work for everything.
Â
2. Work Georgetown on Defense
The Hoyas give up a league-worst 77.7 points per game, and they have struggled with teams who are able to get the ball into the post. Michael Nzei had 18 points in the first matchup and easily could have had more though he uncharacteristically missed eight shots that game. Getting the ball inside also opens up perimeter opportunities, and with the Hoyas struggling with help defense, the Pirates need to make the most of their open shots.
 Â
3. Play Like There's No Tomorrow
Both teams need to win Saturday. The Pirates need to come out of the gate hot like they did against the Hoyas the first time around. March is no time to dig a hole and expect to come back.
