EDISTO ISLAND, S.C. - The Seton Hall women' golf team will return to tournament play for three rounds of golf at the Edisto Island Invitational, March 31-April 1, at The Plantation Course at Edisto.
Â
Tournament Details:
EDISTO ISLAND INVITATIONAL
Host:Â Charleston Southern University
Location:Â Edisto Island, S.C.
Course:Â Plantation Course at Edisto
Course Vitals:Â Par-71, 5,902 yards
Dates:Â March 31-April 1, 2019, Three Rounds
Â
The Course:
The golf course started as a dream of David Lybrand's in 1971 when he purchased the 300 acre site and set to develop a golf course, of which he knew little about. He assembled a team of locals, each with their own specialty, and began construction. Many challenges were addressed in constructing over 30 acres of lakes, and planning around the beautiful trees.
Â
They employed architect Tom Jackson to complete the final phase. He did a masterful job of blending greens and traps which matched the terrain and beauty of the site.
Â
The course was originally named 'Oristo', and the grand opening in late 1973 featured a helicopter landing on the course bringing Sam Snead, Bob Goalby, and Chuck Matlock to play the first round. The Pros were complimentary of the course and so were many golfers who would long enjoy Edisto's new facility. Soon after opening, Oristo received recognition from several sources as one of the best new courses in the Carolina's.
Â
The Field:
In addition to Seton Hall and host Charleston Southern, the field is comprised of 14 other teams including: Bethune Cookman, The Citadel, College of Charleston, College of Charleston (White), Delaware, Elon, James Madison, Morehead State, North Florida, Presbyterian, USC Upstate, Western Carolina, William & Mary and BIG EAST foe Xavier.
Â
The Lineup:
Seton Hall will be bringing the following lineup, in order as indicated, to Edisto.
Â
Â
Last Time Out:
Two weeks ago, sophomore Mia Kness (Venetia, Pa.) became only the second golfer in Seton Hall women's golf history to win two individual tournament titles, firing a 1-over-par, 73, to cement a victory and lead the Pirates to the team title of the 2019 William & Mary Intercollegiate.
Â
Kness used 13 pars to power her final round, and birdied two of the final three holes in route to a 1-over-par, 73. For the tournament, she finished at 2-over-par with a 71-74-73-218, winning the event by six strokes over High Point's Sarah Kahn.
Â
As a team, the Pirates won their second title of the 2018-19 academic year and their 15th since the program's inception prior to the 2010. Today The Hall fired a third-round 16-over-par, 304, a nine-stroke improvement from round two yesterday. For the three-round event, the Pirates shot a 54-over-par, 301-313-304-918, to best second place High Point by 10 strokes.
Â
Tee Times:
The field will play two rounds (36 holes) on Sunday, beginning with a shotgun start at 9:00 a.m., and a single final round on Monday. Seton Hall will be paired with golfers from Bethune Cookman and Xavier for the first two rounds.
