COLUMBUS, OHIO - The Seton Hall women' golf team will return to the course this weekend for three rounds of golf at the 2019 Lady Buckeye Spring Invitational, hosted by Ohio State University, April 13-14.
Â
Tournament Details:
LADY BUCKEYE SPRING INVITATIONAL
Host:Â Ohio State University
Location:Â Columbus, Ohio
Course:Â Ohio State Golf Club (Scarlet Course)
Course Vitals:Â Par-72, 6,319 yards
Format:Â Play Six, Count Four
Dates:Â April 13-14, 2019, Three Rounds
Â
The Course:
In 1941, Ohio State made history when it hosted the first ever women's collegiate golf championship on the Scarlet course. In 1982, Ohio State hosted the final Association for Intercollegiate Athletics for Women (AIAW) Division I National Championship. In 1991, Ohio State hosted the NCAA Women's Championship, commemorating the 50th Anniversary of the national tournament for women on the course on which it was conceived. The women's program later went on to host the 1997 and 2006 tournaments as well. The Scarlet Course has also played host to 10 men's National Championships. Over the years the Ohio State Scarlet course has been the site of several U.S. Open qualifiers, U.S. Amateur qualifiers and the 1977 USGA Junior Championship.
Â
In 2005 and 2006 the Scarlet Course underwent a major restoration project overseen by former Buckeye legend Jack Nicklaus. Jack concentrated on restoring the course to the way Alister MacKenzie originally intended it to play. The bunkers were redesigned to appear more like the classic MacKenzie designs at his numerous other courses. The course was also lengthened to play more than 7,400 yards and the par was changed to 71. The driving range was also enlarged and a short-game practice area was built for both of the varsity golf teams as well as another one for the members of the club.
Â
The Field:
In addition to Seton Hall and host Ohio State, the strong field is comprised of 10 other teams including: Illinois, Indianapolis, Kent State, Maryland, Michigan, Michigan State, Minnesota, Nebraska, Rutgers and Toledo.
Â
The Lineup:
Seton Hall will bring the following golfers to Columbus, in order as listed:
Junior Maddie Sager (Phoenixville, Pa.) fired a 2-under-par, 69, in Monday's final round to lift the Pirates to a third place finish at the 2019 Edisto Island Invitational. Sager had five birdies and 11 pars in her spectacular third round, her second sub-par round of the tournament. For the three-round event, she tied for 14th among 86 individual golfers with a 5-over-par, 79-70-69-218.
Â
A day after their record-setting 278 in round two, the Pirates again golfed strong collectively. The Hall fired a 15-over-par, 299, to move up one spot in the final standings. For the tournament, the Pirates finished with a 22-over-par, 297-278-299-874. It's the first time in program history that The Hall has shot under 300 in every round of a 54-hole tournament, regardless of par.
Â
Seton Hall was able to jump their lone BIG EAST competition in the final day, Xavier. The Musketeers finished fifth at 26-over-par. North Florida won the team event, besting the Pirates by seven strokes. Delaware finished second at 18-over-par.
Â
Last Time at the Lady Buckeye Spring Invitational:
Sager shot 9-over-par through two rounds at the 2018 Lady Buckeye Spring Invitational to lead the Pirates to a 14th place team finish. The tournament's final round was canceled due to poor weather.
Â
Sager shot the top Pirate score of the second round, a 6-over-par, 78. She finished tied for 40th place among 87 individual golfers with a 9-over-par, 75-78-153. Illinois' Grace Park and Kent State's Pimnipa Pathong won the individual title at 3-under-par.
Â
Collectively, the Pirates finished at 47 strokes over par with a 309-314-623. They finished in 14th place in the highly competitive field that features three teams in the Golfstat Top-20 rankings.
Â
