NEW YORK, N.Y. – Junior Tyler Shedler-McAvoy (Allendale, N.J.) was named to the All-BIG EAST First Team by the conference on Wednesday, while juniors Ricky DeVito (Staten Island, N.Y.) and Matt Toke (Three Bridges, N.J.) were named to the All-BIG EAST Second Team.
Shedler-McAvoy has been an on-base force at or near the top of the Seton Hall lineup all season long. The centerfielder leads the Pirates and ranks sixth in the BIG EAST with a .327 batting average, while topping the conference with 22 steals and six triples. Shedler-McAvoy became the first Pirate to be named BIG EAST Player of the Week in back-to-back weeks earlier this month, and enters the BIG EAST Championship with hits in 20 of his last 21 games. His 18 multi-hit games and 11 multi-RBI games are also the most on the team this season.
DeVito again led the Pirates' pitching staff as its Friday starter for the second straight season. A two-time All-BIG EAST selection, he finished the regular season with a 3.86 earned run average and was named to the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll twice. DeVito struck out 61 batters in 58.1 innings this season and is enjoying his most-consistent stretch of the season. He enters the post-season off three straight quality starts where he hasn't allowed more than two runs in a contest.
A consistent bat in the middle of the Pirate order, Toke earned All-BIG EAST honors for the first time in 2019. A starter in 49 games this year, he has set new career-highs in hits, runs scored, walks and RBIs. Toke's .299 batting average ranks second on the team, and his three home runs match his career-best. A strong defensive first baseman, no player in the BIG EAST this season has had more defensive chances without committing an error. He was also named to the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll on March 18.
