SECAUCAS, N.J. – Seton Hall's Ricky DeVito (Staten Island, N.Y.) was selected in the eighth round of the 2019 Major League Baseball First-Year Player Draft by the Atlanta Braves on Tuesday.
DeVito becomes the first Seton Hall player selected in the 2019 Draft, and the eighth Pirate pitcher to be drafted in the last three years. DeVito is the first Pirate chosen by the Braves since Pirate Hall of Famer George Ramos was selected in 1977.
A two-time All-BIG EAST selection, DeVito leaves Seton Hall as one of the great Pirate pitchers in program history, ranking seventh with a career 2.60 earned run average.
DeVito took his game to a new level as a sophomore, becoming the sixth Pirate to be named BIG EAST Pitcher of the Year and earned Second Team All-America recognition. The Hall's regular Saturday starter was named to the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll five times, and BIG EAST Pitcher of the Week after shutting out Butler over eight innings with eight strikeouts. In six BIG EAST starts, spanning 36.0 innings, DeVito allowed only three earned runs. In BIG EAST-only games, he led the conference in ERA (0.75) and wins (four), while ranking second in opposing batting average (.176), third in strikeouts (40) and fourth in innings pitched. For the entire season, DeVito has made 12 starts, and allowed more than one earned run only three times. He finished with a 6-3 record with a 1.88 ERA and 67 strikeouts in 62.1 innings.
As a junior, DeVito earned Second Team All-Conference honors as the team's unquestioned staff ace. The right-hander finished the season with a 3.92 earned run average and was named to the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll twice. DeVito struck out 68 batters in 64.1 innings this season and enjoyed his most-consistent stretch of the season over the final month. He finished his collegiate career with four straight quality starts.

As a freshman DeVito burst onto the scene as a valuable part of the Seton Hall bullpen. The 6-foot-3 fire-baller appeared in 12 contests and didn't allow a single earned run over 15.0 innings pitched. He struck out 20 batters and walked eight, while hitters batted just .122 against him.CONGRATULATIONS to RICKY DEVITO on being an eighth round draft selecton for the ATLANTA BRAVES!!!#HALLin pic.twitter.com/0Jx9UQyY9e
