
Gasser Powers Pirates to Sweep of Iona

SOUTH ORANGE, N.J. – Senior Haylee Gasser (Mission Viejo, Calif.) recorded a match-high 16 kills as the Seton Hall women's volleyball team swept Iona, 3-0 (25-21, 25-22, 25-13), on Wednesday.

Gasser led all players with 16 kills to go with eight digs and two service aces. Freshman Grace Rosenberg (Lido Beach, N.Y.) picked up her second career double-double with a match-high 32 assists and 11 digs.

SET 1:
Seton Hall got off to a slow start in set one, dropping behind 6-2. Out of a timeout however, The Hall scored six of the next eight points to tie the score at eight. Trailing 17-16, Seton Hall scored three straight points to take the lead for good, and a kill by Rosenberg put the Pirates up, 19-17. Back-to-back kills by Gasser ended the set in The Hall's favor, 25-21. Seton Hall attacked at a match-best .345 in the first set to fuel its win.

Trailing 13-10 in the second set, Seton Hall went on a 7-1 run to take a 17-14 lead. A kill by Reece Koehler (Stillwater, Minn.) gave The Hall a 20-17 advantage late in the set. A Gael service error put Seton Hall in set point, 24-21, and another Koehler kill ended the set in the Pirates' favor.

Seton Hall dominated the third set from the very start, scoring nine of the first 11 points. A kill by Julia Wilkins (Mason, Ohio) extended The Hall's lead to 17-6 and forced Iona's second timeout. Koehler's kill put The Hall in match point, 24-12, and two points later Amanda Rachwal (Bethlehem, Pa.) ended the contest with a flush of her own.

Seton Hall will return to action on Friday, Sept. 13 when it begins play at the 2019 Akron Invitational. The Pirates will face Eastern Kentucky on Friday at 4:00 p.m. On Saturday, The Hall will face Saint Francis at 10:00 a.m., followed by host Akron at 7:00 p.m.
