Xie, Tait Fueling Pirates Through Two Rounds at Hartford

SOUTH KENT, CONN. – Freshman Wenliang Xie (Zhaoqing, China) is tied for the individual lead and has lifted the Seton Hall men's golf team to a fourth place standing after two rounds of the 2019 Hartford Hawks Invitational.

Xie, playing in only his second collegiate tournament, followed his 2-under-par, 70, in round one, with a remarkable 5-under-par, 67, in round two. The Pirate newcomer is tied for the individual lead with Rider's Jake Sollon at 7-under-par among 107 individual golfers with 18 holes remaining.

Collectively, the Pirates put together two impressive rounds on Monday. The Hall fired a 2-over-par, 290, in the morning, and followed it with a 3-under-par, 285, in the afternoon. Currently, they are 1-under-par with a 290-285-576, and trail the team leader, UCF, by 11 strokes. Rider is second at 8-under-par, while TCU is third at 6-under-par.

Nearly as impressive as Xie on Monday was Gregor Tait (Martlesham Heath, England). The junior is in fourth place, only two strokes behind Xie with a consistent 5-under-par 70-69-139. Tait is seeking his second straight top-5 finish to begin the fall season, and the third of his career.

Junior Andres Acevedo (San Antonio, Texas) is currently only a single stroke over par and is tied for 26^th place. He has a 71-74-145.

Rounding out the Pirates' lineup, a pair of Pirates are 12-over-par. Senior Alex Chalk (Castle Douglas, Scotland) shot six strokes better in the second round, and currently has an 81-75-156. Sophomore Deven Ramachandran (San Rafael, Calif.) also improved in the afternoon, and has a 79-77-156.

Three additional Pirates made the trip to Bull's Bridge and are competing as individuals. Sophomore Peter Tyler Po (Nasipit Cebu City, Philippines) is currently tied for 42^nd place after a 5-over-par, 73-76-149. Senior Alex McAuley (Douglas, Isle of Man) is currently tied with Chalk and Ramachandran at 12-over-par with a 74-82-156. Finally, sophomore Hunter Ramee (Warren, Conn.) is only two strokes behind the aforementioned trio at 14-over-par with an 81-77-158.

The Field:
In addition to Seton Hall and host Hartford, the large field includes 15 other schools: Bryant, Central Florida, Connecticut, Fairfield, Fairleigh Dickinson, Fordham, Hofstra, LIU, Mount St. Mary's, Rider, Sacred Heart, Saint Francis, TCU, Texas-Rio Grande and Wagner.

Tee Times:
The field will play two continuous rounds on Monday with a shotgun start beginning at 8:00 a.m. A final 18 holes will be played on Tuesday with also an 8:00 a.m. shotgun start.
