PRINCETON, N.J. – Senior Sammie Staudt (Coatesville, Pa.) shot a career-best 4-under-par, 68, to lift the Seton Hall women's golf team to a first-place team standing after a record-low first round of the 2019 Princeton Invitational on Saturday.
Â
Staudt was spectacular, using six birdies to fuel a career-low 4-under-par, 68, and is currently in second place among 80 individual golfers entering Sunday's final round. Staudt is seeking her first career win, and trails the individual leader, Yale's Ami Gianchandani by only one stroke.
Â
For the second time in two tournaments this fall, the Pirates set a new par-72, single-round record. The Hall fired a 5-under-par, 283, in the first round to best the 285 shot only one week ago in the second round of the Nittany Lion Invitational. Seton Hall is the only team under par, and has an eight-stroke lead on the second place team, Pennsylvania.  Additionally, two BIG EAST programs are also in the field. Georgetown is currently in eighth place at 15-over-par, while St. John's is ninth at 17-over-par.
Â
Coming off her first career individual title, Maddie Sager (Phoenixville, Pa.) continued her impressive fall in round one today. The senior is only one stroke behind Staudt, in third place overall with a 3-under-par, 69.
Â
A third Pirate to get into the top-10 after the first round was sophomore Sarah Fouratt (Santa Maria, Calif.), also coming off her first individual title. She had four birdies on the morning, and is tied for eighth with an even-par, 72.
Â
Senior Carolina Ronchel Salas (Huelva, Spain) birdied three of her first five holes to finish her first round at 2-over-par with a 74. She's currently tied for 20th place.
Â
Senior Lizzie Win (Sylvania, Ohio) rounded out the Pirates' lineup with a 9-over-par, 81.
Â
