Seton Hall will make its 2019 Walsh Gym debut this weekend when it hosts the 2019 Seton Hall Classic. The Pirates will welcome Northern Arizona, La Salle, Binghamton and Northeastern to South Orange. There will be four matches played on both Friday and Saturday. The Hall will open the event on Friday with a match against Northern Arizona at 11:00 am. All four of Seton Hall's matches will be streamed live on the Pirate Sports Network.

LAST WEEKEND
Seton Hall opened the 2019 season last weekend at the Morgan State Invitational in Baltimore. The young Pirates had a tough go, falling to the tournament host Bears, Quinnipiac and Towson.

On Friday, the Pirates twice rallied from a set deficit, but ultimately fell in five sets to Morgan State, 3-2 (18-25, 25-19, 23-25, 25-22, 5-15). Senior Maggie Cvelbar (Euclid, Ohio) tallied a double-double with 29 points and 10 digs in the loss. Junior Amanda Rachwal (Bethlehem, Pa.) led The Hall with a career-high 11 kills to go with just one attack error and a team-best .625 attack percentage.

In the early game on Saturday, senior Haylee Gasser (Mission Viejo, Calif.) tallied a match-high 11 kills, but the Pirates fell in three sets to Quinnipiac, 3-0 (19-25, 18-25, 21-25). In the second match of the day, The Hall dropped a match to Towson, 3-0 (15-25, 24-26, 22-25). The Pirates (0-3) got a team-high eight kills from Gasser and a career-high 14 assists from freshman Grace Rosenberg (Lido Beach, N.Y.).

SCOUTING NORTHERN ARIZONA
Seton Hall and Northern Arizona will open the tournament with the first-ever meeting between the programs.

Northern Arizona is coming off a highly successful 2018 campaign that brought a Big Sky Championship and a 26-9 final record. The team earned an automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament and fell in the first round at Washington State in four sets.Â

This season, Northern Arizona was a unanimous preseason selection to repeat as Big Sky Champions. NAU returns three All-Conference performers in senior Abby Akin, junior Heaven Harris and sophomore Ryann Davis from its 2018 Big Sky Championship team.

Northern Arizona is 1-2 so far this season, dropping two of three matches at the Michigan Invitational. They opened the year with a sweep of Tennessee Tech on Friday, before dropping a hard-fought five-set match at No. 15 Michigan. On Saturday, they fell at Oakland in four sets.

SCOUTING LA SALLE
Seton Hall and La Salle will meet for the 15th time in history on Friday, with the Pirates dominating the all-time series, 12-2. Most recently, the Pirates swept a contest at Walsh Gym on Sept. 11, 2004.

The Explorers are coming off an 18-12 season in 2018. They won their opening round game of the Atlantic 10 Conference championship before falling to Dayton in the semifinals.

This season, La Salle is picked to finish fourth in the 10-team Atlantic 10. The Explorers return 11 of the 15 players from a year ago, including reigning A-10 Setter of the Year Kathryn Wood and fellow First Team All-Conference selection Devin Corah.

La Salle enters the tournament with a 1-2 overall record. They dropped two of three contests at the Golden Dome Invitational at Notre Dame last weekend. La Salle fell to the Fighting Irish in four sets on Friday. On Saturday, they edged Bowling Green in five sets before falling to Wichita State in four to complete the event.

SCOUTING BINGHAMTON
Seton Hall and Binghamton will meet for the third time in history on Saturday with The Hall having won both prior meetings. Most recently, Seton Hall edged Binghamton, 3-2, at the Cornell Invitational on Sept. 9, 2015..

Binghamton struggled in 2018, finishing with a 5-20 overall record. They finished the season with losses in eight of their final nine matches.

Binghamton was picked to finish last in the six-team America East Conference in the 2019 preseason poll.Â

So far this season, the Bearcats are 0-3 after a trio of losses at the Delaware Classic last weekend. Binghamton is still seeking its first set victory after 3-0 losses to Coppin State, Delaware and West Virginia.

SCOUTING NORTHEASTERN
Seton Hall and Northeastern will meet for the seventh time in history with the Huskies owning a 4-2 all-time series lead. Most recently, Northeastern defeated the Pirates in four sets on Sept. 18, 2010 in Walsh Gym.

The Huskies are coming off a 16-14 season in 2018, which included a first round loss to Towson in the Colonial Athletic Association tournament.Â

This season, Northeastern is picked to finish fifth in the nine-team CAA. Athena Adrila was named a preseason All-Conference Honorable Mention.Â

To date, Northeastern is 1-2 after dropping two of three contests at the GBD Invite in Green Bay, Wis. The Huskies fell to host Green Bay in four sets on Friday, before defeating Indiana State in four sets in the nightcap. On Saturday, Northeastern was swept by Ohio in the tournament finale.
