
Pirates Drop Classic Opener to NAU

SOUTH ORANGE, N.J. – Freshman Grace Rosenberg (Lido Beach, N.Y.) finished one dig shy of her first career double-double, but the Seton Hall women's volleyball team fell to Northern Arizona, 3-0 (12-25, 20-25, 12-25), in its first game of the Seton Hall Classic on Friday.
Rosenberg finished with a team-high 11 assists to go with nine digs. Freshman Julia Wilkins (Mason, Ohio) led The Hall (0-4) with seven kills in her first collegiate match. Another freshman, Raygan Murray (Rocky River, Ohio) led the Pirates with 12 digs.
SET 1:
Seton Hall struggled in the first set, compiling a -.024 attack percentage. After the Pirates scored the first point, NAU (2-2) went on an 11-3 run to take control of the set. A kill by Hayley Gasser (Mission Viejo, Calif.) cut the Lumberjacks lead to 19-10, but Northern Arizona finished the set with six of the final eight points.
SET 2:
The second set was by far the closest of the match. With the score tied at eight, Northern Arizona went on a 10-3 burst to take a commanding 18-11 advantage. The Hall bounced back however, and a service ace by Maggie Cvelbar (Euclid, Ohio) cut the deficit to just two, 22-20, and forced a timeout. NAU regrouped though, and scored the final three points of the set to win, 25-20.

Block assists by Gasser and Amanda Rachwal (Bethlehem, Pa.) gave The Hall an early 5-4 lead in set three, but the Lumberjacks erupted with a 12-1 run to leap ahead, 16-6. From there, NAU went on to another 25-12 set victory.
