Playing without two starters and a key reserve, the Seton Hall women's basketball team dropped a tough, back-and-forth affair with Albany, 71-66, on Sunday in Walsh Gymnasium.
Â
Super sophomores Mya Jackson (Wilmington, Ohio) and Lauren Park-Lane (Wilmington, Del.) provided an offensive spark, and junior Alexia Allesch (Basking Ridge, N.J.) notched her first career double-double, but The Hall couldn't survive a tough shooting night and lack of depth. The Hall was without starters Femi Funeus, Desiree Elmore and bench spark plug Jasmine Smith.
Â
Jackson tallied a team-high 22 points on the strength of four made three-pointers, to go with three assists and two steals. Park-Lane had 15 points and a team-best five assists. Allesch notched career-highs of 13 points and 10 rebounds to go with three blocks and two steals in another strong all-around performance. All three Pirates played at least 38 minutes.

LAST TIME AGAINST CONNECTICUT
Mya Jackson scored 21 points and the Pirates gave No. 4 Connecticut a close game, but the Huskies pulled away late to defeat the Pirates, 92-78, before a sold out Walsh Gym crowd on Dec. 5 last season.
Â
The Pirates led by nine at the end of the first quarter, and trailed by only four at the half, but was outscored 22-14 in the defining fourth quarter.
Â
Jackson came off the bench to score a team-high 21 points on an efficient 8-for-12 shooting, which included five made three-pointers. Senior Shadeen Samuels scored 14 points after missing the prior four games due to injury. Both Desiree Elmore and Lauren Park-Lane also scored in double-figures.
Â
SCOUTING CONNECTICUT
Connecticut is coming off a spectacular 26-3 season, which included a perfect record in conference play and a seventh consecutive American Athletic Conference championship. The Huskies were projected to earn a No. 2 seed in the NCAA Tournament before the season was prematurely ended. Megan Walker and Crystal Dangerfield were selected in the WNBA Draft following the season.
Â
This season, Connecticut returns to the BIG EAST Conference and was chosen as the unanimous favorite to win the league title. Despite the WNBA defections, UConn returns BIG EAST Preseason Player of the Year Christyn Williams and Preseason Freshman of the Year Paige Bueckers.
Â
Similarly to the Pirates, COVID-19 has caused the Huskies to get a late start to their season. Tuesday's contest will be only the second of the year for UConn. In their opener, throttled UMass-Lowell, 79-23. Bueckers led the team with 15 points.
