
Acevedo, Xie Lead Pirates Through Two Rounds at UNCG

PALM CITY, FLA. – Both Andres Acevedo (San Antonio, Texas) and Wenliang Xie (Zhaoqing, China) are 1-under-par through two rounds and have lifted the Seton Hall men's golf team to a eighth place team standing at the UNCG / Martin Downs Collegiate entering Sunday's final round.

Acevedo shot an even-par, 72, a after firing a 1-under-par, 71. Through two rounds, he has only collected four bogeys and is tied for 23rd place among 94 individual golfers with a 1-under-par, 71-72-143. Among others, Acevedo is tied with Xie who also was even-par today after being 1-under yesterday. Xie has had a total of 10 birdies through two rounds to lead the Pirates.

Both Pirates are trailing the individual leader, UNCG's Jonathan Brightwell, who is 13-under-par entering round three.

As a team, Seton Hall moved up three spots in the team standings today following a 4-over-par, 292. The Hall's performance comes after a 1-over-par, 289, in yesterday's round one. For the tournament, they're 5-over-par with a 289-292-581. The Hall trails the team leader and host, UNCG by 40 strokes entering Sunday's final round.

Among the competitors in this very strong field, is BIG EAST opponent Villanova. The Wildcats are currently in 14th place at 37-over-par.

Sophomore Peter Tyler Po (Nasipit Cebu City, Philippines) finished his second round with a 4-over-par, 76. That came on the heels of a strong 1-over-par, 73, in round one. Through two rounds, Po is tied for 51st with a 5-over-par, 73-76-149.

Junior Gregor Tait (Martlesham Heath, England) shaved five shots off his first-round score to finish with a 2-over-par, 74, in round two. If it weren't for a 4-over-par, 8, on the No. 1 hole, Tait's round could have been truly memorable. Through two rounds, Tait is 9-over-par with a 79-74-153.

Senior Alex Chalk (Castle Douglas, Scotland) has been the most consistent Pirate through two rounds, firing a pair of 2-over-par, 74's. In the opening round, Chalk tallied an eagle on the par-5 No. 13 hole. Today, he used three birdies to fuel his round. For the event, he is 4-over-par with a 74-74-148.

Three Pirates made the trip and are competing as individuals. Freshman James Bosworth (Simsbury, Conn.) is 6-over-par with a 76-74-150. He had an eagle on the par-5, No. 8 hole today. Sophomore Ian Lee (Johor, Malaysia) is 11-over-par with a 78-77-155, while sophomore Hunter Ramee (Warren, Conn.) is 21-over-par with an 81-84-165.

The course offers multiple sets of tees for all skill levels, including a driving range, practice facility, and putting green. Banyan Creek is surrounded by nature, not homes, which is why this course is a unique treasure for our golf community.
