Â
The Story:
Both teams came out of the starting block on fire from the floor. The teams combined to make eight three-pointers in the first quarter. A three-pointer by Alexis Lewis (Wilkes-Barre, Pa.) tied the score at 18, but DePaul responded with a 7-0 spurt, and ultimately ended the first quarter up, 27-21.
Â
A jumper by Jackson with 3:36 left before halftime cut The Hall's deficit to four points, 40-36. The Pirates however, struggled to contain DePaul's Chante Stonewall, and the Blue Demon senior scored the final six points of the half for DePaul to send them into the locker room with a 50-40 advantage. DePaul shot 55.9% from the floor in the first half and got 24 points from Stonewall.
Â
Jackson jump-started the Pirates' offense in the second half, scoring five quick points to begin the third quarter and sending DePaul to an early timeout. Down three with under 5:00 left in the third, Samuels scored on a put-back to cut The Hall's deficit to one, and then on the next possession, Elmore found Samuels again underneath, who scored to give The Hall the lead, 57-56, with 4:01 left in the period. A 7-2 burst put DePaul back in front, and they took a 64-61 lead into the fourth.
Â
After trading baskets for much of the early moments of the fourth quarter, Jackson found Jasmine Smith (Houston, Texas) on a fast-break bucket to cut Seton Hall's deficit to just one, 72-71, with 6:05 left to play. DePaul however, responded by connecting for three-pointers on back-to-back possessions to jump their lead back up to seven. The Hall never got closer than five points over the game's final four minutes.
