LAST GAMEÂ Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â
Sophomore Lauren Park-Lane (Wilmington, Del.) scored a game-high 27 points, but the Pirates fell to Villanova, 78-71, at Walsh Gym on Wednesday.
Â
Park-Lane notched her third straight 20-point game, going 7-for-14 from the floor and a near-perfect 12-for-13 from the free-throw line. Senior Desiree Elmore (Harford, Conn.) and Andra Espinoza-Hunter (Ossining, N.Y.) also reached double-figures in scoring for the Pirates. Elmore had 15 points, including 13 in the first half, to go with a team-high eight rebounds, three assists and two steals. Espinoza-Hunter had 10 points and three rebounds.
Â
Trailing 43-36, The Hall went on a 9-0 run, and a layup by Alexia Allesch (Basking Ridge, N.J.) gave the Pirates a 45-43 advantage with 6:30 left in the third quarter. Villanova again bounced back though, and with the score tied at 47, Maddy Siegrist hit a three-pointer that gave the Wildcats the lead for good.
Â
With Seton Hall down by 12 points, Espinoza-Hunter and Allesch hit three-pointers on back-to-back possessions. Park-Lane then drove to the hoop and scored for a quick 8-0 burst which cut The Hall's deficit to just 67-63 with 3:01 left in the contest. The Hall couldn't get closer, however, and Villanova held on for a seven-point victory.

LAST YEAR AGAINST BUTLER
Seton Hall met Butler three times last year and the Pirates won them all, the home-and-away season series as well as their quarterfinal matchup at the BIG EAST Championship in Chicago.
Â
During that contest, the Pirates drained 16 three-pointers, a single-game program record, in route to a comfortable 83-57 rout of fifth-seeded Butler in the quarterfinals of the 2020 BIG EAST Championship. Seton Hall never trailed, draining six three-pointers in the opening quarter to set the tone early. For the game, the Pirates' 16 made trifectas is one shy of tying the tournament record.
Â
Senior Alexis Lewis scored a game-high 20 points and matched her season-high with six made three-pointers. Freshman Lauren Park-Lane erupted for a career-high 17 points to go with a game-high seven assists.
Â
Seton Hall started the game on fire from the field, three-pointers by Samuels, Lewis and Park-Lane enabled the Pirates to start the game with a 12-0 run. Butler didn't score until the 4:50 mark of the first quarter. Lewis' third made trifecta of the quarter extended The Hall's game-opening run to 18-2 with 2:58 left in the frame. The rout was on.
Â
SCOUTING BUTLER
The Bulldogs are coming off a successful 19-11 season overall and an 11-7 mark in BIG EAST play. They would've likely been a WNIT selection if the season wasn't prematurely ended. Butler ended its campaign with a regular season loss to Seton Hall at Walsh Gym before falling to the Pirates in the quarterfinals of the BIG EAST Championship. 83-57.
Â
This year, having lost a number of starters, the Bulldogs are expected to take a step back and finish eighth in the 11-team BIG EAST Conference, according to the Preseason Coaches' Poll.Â
Â
Butler has gotten off to a tough start in 2020-21, as they're still looking for the new campaign's first victory. The Bulldogs enter Monday's contest 0-6 overall and 0-5 in BIG EAST play. Most recently, they fell at St. John's, 64-56, on Saturday.Â
Â
UP NEXT
Seton Hall will return to action on Wednesday, January 13 when it remains on the road for its second game of the season against national powerhouse No. 3 Connecticut. Tip-time is scheduled for 4:30 p.m. ET. The contest will be televised live by SNY. As usual, 89.FM WSOU will also bring you all the action on the radio.
