LAST YEAR AGAINST ST. JOHN'S
Last year, St. John's swept the home-and-home series against Seton Hall with an 82-66 victory over The Hall at Walsh Gym on Jan. 21 and a 77-76 win in Carnesecca Arena on Feb. 22.
Â
In their most recent matchup, three Pirates recorded double-doubles, but the Pirates fell in the waning seconds of a back-and-forth contest, 77-76.
Â
The Hall led by one with the ball with 10 seconds remaining, but the Pirates' inbounds pass was knocked away, and in the ensuing scrum on the floor, St. John's Kadaja Bailey was fouled. She went to the line and made both free-throws with four seconds left to hand the victory to the Red Storm.
Â
SCOUTING ST. JOHN'S
The Red Storm is coming off a successful 19-12 season overall and an 11-7 mark in BIG EAST play. They would've likely been a WNIT selection if the season wasn't prematurely ended. Like Seton Hall, St. John's season ended with a semifinal loss in the 2020 BIG EAST Championship.
Â
This year, St. John's is predicted to finish fourth in the 11-team BIG EAST Conference, according to the Preseason Coaches' Poll. Â Leilani Correa and Qadasha Hoppie were named to the Preseason All-BIG EAST Team.Â
Â
St. John's has had an up-and-down season so far and enters its contest against Seton Hall with a 4-7 record overall and a 1-5 mark in BIG EAST play. After a five game losing streak, the Red Storm defeated St. Bonaventure and Butler. Since however, they've fallen at DePaul, 101-84, and most recently to Marquette on Sunday, 72-61. Hoppie led the team with 15 points. Correa notched a double-double with 11 points and 10 rebounds.
