Seton Hall dropped a pair of hard-fought road contests in BIG EAST play last weekend. The Pirates were swept at DePaul on Friday, before falling in four sets at Marquette on Saturday.
Â
Senior Emilee Turner (Kaysville, Utah) had a team-high 10 kills, but the Pirates fell in three sets at DePaul, 3-0 (23-25, 19-25, 16-25), on Friday. Turner had a team-best 10 kills, only two attack errors, a team-best .333 attack percentage and four blocks. Junior Raygan Murray (Rocky River, Ohio) recorded a season-high 23 digs.
Â
Turner and sophomore Tsvetelina Ilieva (Sofia, Bulgaria) combined for 18 kills and only three attack errors, but the Pirates fell in four sets at Marquette, 3-1 (21-25, 25-22, 12-25, 19-25), on Saturday. Turner finished with nine kills, only one attack error, and a .364 attack percentage, while Ilieva had nine kills, two attack errors, and three digs. Perri Lucas (Chicago, Ill.) missed the team lead by only one kill, finishing with eight. Sophomore Taylor Jakubowski (Lake in the Hills, Ill.) picked up her fifth double-double in the last six matches. She finished with 15 assists and 13 digs.
Â
SCOUTING XAVIER
The Pirates are looking for a season-series split when Seton Hall and Xavier match up on Friday. On Oct. 8, six Pirates recorded at least nine kills and Seton Hall rallied from a two-set deficit, but ultimately fell on the road to Xavier, 3-2 (23-25, 24-26, 25-22, 25-21, 13-15). In one of the closest matches the Pirates have played in recent memory, the teams combined for 42 ties and 20 lead changes. All three of Seton Hall's losing sets were by only two points.
Â
Xavier enters the weekend with a 10-9 overall record and an impressive 5-3 mark in BIG EAST play. They're currently tied for fourth in the BIG EAST and are very much alive for a BIG EAST Tournament berth.Â
Â
Most recently, the Musketeers split a pair of home BIG EAST matches last weekend. Xavier defeated Georgetown in four sets on Friday before falling to Villanova in four sets on Saturday. Since last playing Seton Hall, the Musketeers have also fallen to St. John's in four sets and been swept by Dayton in non-conference action.
Â
SCOUTING BUTLER
On Saturday, the Pirates will be looking for a season-sweep of Butler, a feat that hasn't happened since the 2016 season. On Oct. 9, Seton Hall snapped a six-match losing streak to the Bulldogs with an exciting three-set sweep in Indianapolis.Â
Â
Sophomore Perri Lucas (Chicago, Ill.) had a team-high 13 kills, and Taylor Jakubowski had a double-double as the Pirates swept Butler, 3-0 (25-15, 25-21, 26-24). Lucas was brilliant offensively, collecting a team-high 13 kills to go with only three attack errors and three digs. Jakubowski collected her fourth straight double-double with a team-best 16 assists, 15 digs and four kills.
Â
Butler enters the weekend with a 10-11 overall record and a 4-4 mark in BIG EAST play. They're currently tied with Villanova for sixth in the BIG EAST and are alive for a BIG EAST Tournament berth.Â
