
Habib Leads Pirates at BIG EAST Championships

Carmel, Ind. – Just as she has done all season, Nancy Habib (Clifton, N.J.) continued her success in leading the Pirates, this time doing so at BIG EAST Championships on Friday morning. Habib finished the 6k course at Northview Church in Carmel, Ind., in a time of 23:29.3. The junior has now paced the Pirates in each of their seven meets so far this season.
Following Habib in just her first BIG EAST Championship appearance was Taj Lanier (Lincoln University, Pa.) who finished in a time of 24:10.4. The freshman has now finished as a top-three Pirate in all seven meets this year. In third for the Pirates was Abigail Hughes (Staten Island, N.Y.) who crossed the finish line in a time of 24:38.2 for her highest team finish of the season.
Coming in just behind Hughes was Lauren Ginefra (Budd Lake, N.J.) finishing in a time of 24:40.9. Rounding out the top-five Pirate finishers was Julia Smith (Pittsgrove, N.J.). The freshman finished the course in a time of 24:57.9 in her first conference championship meet.
Rounding out the competitors for the Pirates was Emily Hernandez (East Brunswick, N.J.), who finished in 25:40.1, Amelia Carson (Charleston, S.C. ), who finished in 27:00.8 and Kate Cochran (Sewell, N.J.), who finished in 27:06.8.
Now in his 50th season as a head coach at Seton Hall, John Moon was honored by the BIG EAST conference for his dedication and service to the sport following Friday's races.
The Pirates will have some time off before running again in postseason action including the IC4A/ECAC Championships on Nov. 20 at Van Cortlandt Park.
